With expertise across fields such as transportation, quantum science, medical countermeasures and advanced manufacturing, the NRC is hiring to drive the development of national sovereign defence capabilities. The following role will support the NRC’s contributions to defence priorities.
We are looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Real Property Planning and Management (RPPM) Branch. The successful candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
Working closely with a multi-disciplinary project delivery and engineering team, the Structural Engineer is a vital member to RPPM’s engineering and construction team. They are responsible for providing structural design solutions to meet specialized research environment driven requirements as well as accommodation, construction and renovation needs to support NRC infrastructure by way of drawings and specifications. In addition, the Structural Engineer shall provide support to the operations and maintenance team as required.
The projects range from office fit-up accommodations, renovations, restorations and alterations of NRC buildings and facilities to new construction and involve all construction trades and disciplines including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical. The project values can range from tens of thousands of dollars to millions of dollars depending on the complexity and size of the project being completed.
Due to the fast-paced working environment, the Structural Engineer needs to have strong communication skills and must be comfortable working with contractors, consultants, clients, and other NRC stakeholders.
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with Structural option from an accredited* university.
*An accredited engineering program consist of studies in engineering leading to a bachelor’s degree (or higher level) that fulfills the academic requirements for licensure with Canada’s engineering regulators per the rules and practices set forth and administered by Engineers Canada
Membership in a provincial engineering association, Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) / Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) in Quebec etc. will be considered an asset.

The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the RCO-2/RCO-3 level, which is a mid-career level position with a salary range of $83,985 to $139,608
Note Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for these positions).
In addition, the incumbent who meets the language requirements will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
