Structural Engineer

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Supervise bridge substructure works pile foundations (bored piles, barrettes), pile caps, piers, abutments, and bearing shelves.

  • Supervise bridge superstructure works precast/cast-in-situ girders, segmental box girders, deck slabs, stitch pours, parapets, and crash barriers.

  • Witness post-tensioning operations: duct installation, strand threading, stressing, elongation checks, grouting, and anchor block protection.

  • Supervise bearing installation, expansion joint installation, deck waterproofing, and asphalt overlay.

  • Verify heavy-lift operations including girder launching, segmental erection, and use of launching gantries.

  • Supervise cut-and-cover works diaphragm walls, secant pile walls, base slabs, walls, and roof slabs.

  • Supervise TBM-related structural activities: segment delivery checks, ring build, annular grouting, and as-built ring geometry.

  • Witness NDT activities — UPV, rebound hammer, half-cell potential, GPR — and concrete cube/cylinder testing.

  • Review and provide technical comments on Contractor's method statements, ITPs, shop drawings, material submittals, and mix designs for structural works.

  • Review temporary works submittals (formwork, falsework, shoring, lifting plans) and escalate to the ARE for sign-off.

  • Verify survey setting-out, levels, alignment, camber, and geometric tolerances against IFC drawings.

  • Raise non-conformance reports (NCRs); investigate structural defects and review the Contractor's remedial proposals before recommending them to the ARE.

  • Review IFC drawings, design clarifications, and Contractor's technical queries (RFIs); coordinate with the design team for resolution.

  • Review Contractor's value engineering proposals and design change submissions; provide structural assessment to the ARE.

  • Support the ARE in reviewing post-tensioning design submissions, segment design submissions, and specialist subcontractor proposals.

  • Support the ARE in administering structural works under FIDIC conditions — preparing site instructions, observations, and notices.

  • Assist in measurement, valuation, and review of the Contractor's payment applications for structural items.

  • Gather records and prepare technical input to support evaluation of EOT requests and claims related to structural works.

  • Maintain accurate site records, daily inspection reports, and contractual correspondence within the document control system.

  • Enforce the project HSE plan on all structural activities particularly focus on heavy lifts, post-tensioning, working at height, confined space, and underground works.

  • Review Contractor's risk assessments and HSE method statements for structural activities; act on unsafe conditions.

  • Coordinate with RTA, Dubai Municipality, and other authorities during inspections and approvals of structural works.

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports covering structural supervision, quality, HSE, progress, and key issues.

  • Support the ARE in preparing technical input for the Engineer's monthly report to the Employer.

  • Maintain photographic logs, inspection records, and as-built documentation for structural works.

  • Support testing and commissioning activities on structural systems.

  • Lead snagging and de-snagging on structural elements; support taking-over inspections.

  • Support the defects notification period, including warranty inspections and close-out of structural defects.

  • Verify completeness of structural as-built drawings and handover documentation.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Minimum 12 years' structural engineering experience, with at least 8 years on supervision of major bridge and/or tunnel projects.

  • Minimum 6 years' UAE/GCC experience on RTA, metro, Dubai Municipality, or comparable authority projects.

  • Demonstrable supervision experience covering both bridges and tunnels (strength in one with proven capability in the other acceptable).

  • Strong knowledge of ACI 318, ACI 350, AASHTO LRFD, BS 5400, BS EN 1992, ITA guidelines, and RTA/DM specifications.

  • Strong technical reading of structural drawings, post-tensioning shop drawings, segmental lining drawings, and waterproofing details.

  • Familiarity with structural analysis software (e.g., MIDAS Civil, SAP2000, LUSAS, STAAD. Pro) at reviewer level.

  • Familiarity with TBM operations, segmental ring build geometry, and shotcrete/SCL methodologies.

  • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks.

  • Sound technical judgment and the ability to make site-level decisions within delegated authority.

  • Good communication and stakeholder management — able to engage with the Contractor, authorities, and design consultant.

  • Fluent English (written and spoken).

  • Physically able and willing to work underground and in confined spaces as needed.

  • High standards of integrity, impartiality, and professionalism — essential when acting on behalf of the Engineer.
