Our client is looking for a full-time
Structural Designer (Civil Engineer)
to support their expanding workload and contribute to high-quality residential structural design projects. They operate within the residential construction and engineering sector and have spent recent years strengthening their reputation for delivering reliable, code-compliant solutions for builders and developers across diverse housing projects.
This role is ideal for someone who is precise, analytical, and comfortable working with multiple active projects in a fast-paced environment. The Structural Designer will play a key role in producing structural drawings, coordinating with architects and builders, and ensuring all designs meet local code requirements.
Prepare structural drawing redlines for residential projects, including foundation plans, framing layouts, roof plans, shear wall configurations, and detailed structural notes.
Perform structural analysis for wood framing, conventionally reinforced slabs, post-tensioned slabs, CMU pier systems, and other common residential structural systems.
Coordinate with architects, builders, developers, and internal teams to clarify design intent and ensure constructability.
Review architectural drawings and develop efficient, cost-conscious structural layouts that support value engineering efforts.
Update structural plans to reflect field conditions, site changes, client requests, or revised project requirements.
Assist with schematic designs, preliminary framing concepts, and proposal exhibits when needed.
Ensure all plans adhere to relevant building codes, including IRC/IBC, City of Houston standards, and geotechnical recommendations.
1–2+ years of experience in structural design (residential experience strongly preferred).
Strong understanding of wood-framed construction, floor systems, roof framing, and residential foundation methods.
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and convert them into structural plans.
Knowledge of local code requirements and design best practices.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Proficiency in AutoCAD.
Familiarity with structural design software used in analysis and modeling.
Experience with tools such as AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
Civil engineering background is strongly preferred.
