Location: Vancouver, BC

Salary: $95,000 – $117,000 + Profit Sharing

About the Opportunity

Our client is a growing multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm with a strong portfolio across structural engineering, building restoration, building envelope, and other building engineering services.

They are looking for an Intermediate Structural Design Engineer to join their Vancouver structural engineering team. This role will focus heavily on new construction, particularly mass timber and hybrid structures, while also supporting restoration and rehabilitation projects.

The successful candidate will be involved throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual design and structural analysis through construction, site reviews, and project completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support structural design for new residential, commercial, and institutional buildings.

  • Perform structural analysis and design of timber, steel, concrete, and hybrid structural systems.

  • Develop structural schemes, basis-of-design documents, and design strategies.

  • Design and detail structural connections across timber, steel, and concrete systems.

  • Perform analysis of gravity and lateral load systems and develop appropriate load paths.

  • Provide structural solutions for restoration, rehabilitation, construction issues, and existing-building conditions.

  • Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and construction reviews.

  • Coordinate structural designs with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

  • Participate in client meetings and present structural design concepts and solutions.

  • Prepare evaluation reports, construction documents, proposals, and technical documentation.

  • Manage aspects of project delivery, including budgets, scope, invoicing, and additional services.

  • Coordinate with BIM and project teams while maintaining QA/QC standards.

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

  • Support project managers and other team members with workload coordination and project deadlines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Structural Engineering.

  • Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience within a consulting engineering environment.

  • Demonstrated experience designing mass timber structures, including glulam and CLT.

  • Experience with hybrid timber, steel, and concrete structural systems.

  • Strong structural connection design and detailing experience.

  • Strong understanding of structural behaviour, load paths, gravity systems, and lateral systems.

  • Hands-on experience with new construction projects and an understanding of construction methods and material costs.

  • P.Eng. registered with EGBC or eligible for registration in British Columbia through transfer from another Canadian jurisdiction.

  • Proficiency with Revit and at least one structural analysis platform such as ETABS, SAFE, S-Frame, or RAM.

  • Experience with Rhino, Grasshopper, Speckle, Karamba3D, or similar computational/parametric design tools is an asset.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.

  • Strong attention to detail and a practical, client-focused approach to problem solving.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $95,000 – $117,000, depending on experience.
