Job Description

The Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based training programs for athletes and members across all of the Performance Training Centre’s (PTC) products, programs and development pathways. Working within an integrated performance model, this role supports athlete development through physical preparation, injury mitigation, and performance enhancement, aligned with the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework.

The strength and conditioning coach contributes to a high-performance training culture by delivering elite coaching standards, strong athlete engagement, and professional collaboration with sport coaches and performance staff.

What you will be doing:

Program Delivery and Coaching Excellence

  • Design, supervise and implement strength and conditioning programs to general population, youth, and development athletes.
  • Coach proper technique, movement quality, and progression across strength, speed, power, agility, and conditioning performance qualities.
  • Ensure the training environment is congruent within facility and athlete or client programming requirements.
  • Stay current with industry research and present on topics of interest within the profession to the strength and conditioning team.

Athlete Development and Support

  • Support athletes across multiple stages of development, from grassroots to high-performance.
  • Contribute to individualized training programs aligned with sport demands and competition schedules.
  • Monitor athlete readiness, training load, and performance responses, providing intervention as required.
  • Reinforce principles of the LTAD framework, physical literacy, and sustainable performance.
  • Work closely with sport coaches to align physical preparation with technical and tactical training.
  • Communicate athlete progress, training observations, and issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support return-to-performance and re-conditioning programs under the guidance of Lead, Strength and Conditioning coach.
  • Configure and help organize the weight room, equipment and support the overall daily training environment at the PTC on an ongoing basis.

Professional Development and Collaboration

  • Actively engage in professional development opportunities to advance coaching skills and technical knowledge.
  • Build rapport and a professional relationship with teams and athletes and arrange follow-ups when necessary.
  • Maintain required certifications and professional standards.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, respectful, and development-focused coaching culture.

Data and Reporting

  • Assist with athlete testing, data collection, and performance monitoring as directed.
  • Accurately document training sessions, attendance, athlete feedback, and any incidents that may have occurred using approved systems.
  • Support ongoing evaluation and refinement of training programs.

Athlete Safety and Risk Management

  • Demonstrate safe work practices at all times, adhering to WinSport’s safety policies and procedures to ensure individual safety of self, co-workers, and all WinSport guests.
  • Maintain a safe training environment, including proper equipment setup, supervision, and hygiene standards.
  • Enforce code of conduct within the facilities and manage any behavior concerns appropriately.
  • Be mindful of all safety hazards within the work environment and ensure issues, inventory and safety checks are reported to upper leadership.

What you bring:

  • Degree in Kinesiology or related field; Master degree considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience delivering strength and conditioning services in a sport or team environment.
  • Recognized professional certifications such as National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA-CSCS) or Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CEP/CPT) an asset.
  • First Aid and CPR required.
  • Experience working with youth, developing, or competitive athletes in a structured training environment.
  • Familiarity with LTAD principles amateur sport systems an asset.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills to build personal and professional relationships with WinSport staff and guests.
  • Technically proficient and competent in coaching and performing key lifts and movements.
  • Attention to detail to accomplish all relevant tasks completely and accurately while ensuring safety of WinSport guests.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple training demographics and have proper progressions and regressions for individuals within those populations.
  • Curiosity to further knowledge within the strength and conditioning industry.
  • Passion to support others achieve fitness goals and develop the individual or team through a holistic approach.
  • Excellent people leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions

  • Work Environment:
    • Indoor gym environment, working in a professional, fast-paced environment.
    • Regular meetings and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, in person or virtually.
  • Work Hours:
    • Generally part-time, Monday to Friday with some variation based on operational needs.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Expected lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling of objects.
