Job Description

We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Somerset to assist with the appointment of a Streetworks Technicianon a 9.5- months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay £13.47 - £17.82 per hour

As a Street Works Technician, you will play a vital role in the Infrastructure & Transport team, ensuring that Somerset's road network remains safe, efficient, and well-coordinated. This is an entry-to-mid-level technical role focused on the administration and monitoring of street activities. You will act as a key point of coordination between utility companies, contractors, and the public, helping to manage road space and minimize disruption through effective permitting and communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the administration of road closures and the processing of street works permits to ensure compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA).
  • Support senior colleagues with administrative tasks, including the accuracy checking of notices and permit applications to prevent scheduling conflicts.
  • Attend occasional site visits and meetings to observe works in progress and ensure they align with approved plans.
  • Utilize mapping systems (GIS), digital tools, and asset databases to record, track, and update information regarding ongoing road works.

Qualifications:

  • A good standard of general education (GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths).

Essentials:

  • Experience in a customer-facing role or an administrative environment where accuracy and organization were essential.
  • Must hold a valid UK driving licence to facilitate occasional site visits across the county.
  • Confident using ICT systems, including Microsoft Office (Excel/Word) and a willingness to be trained on specialized Street Works software and GIS mapping.
