Job Description

DIVISION: Operations

CLOSING DATE/TIME: Until Filled

LOCATION: 1201 East 7th Avenue, Tampa, FL 33605

PAY RATE: $23.40/hr. per Union Contract

POSITION PURPOSE:

Performs electrical and mechanical inspections, service, diagnosis and repair, to maintain Streetcar vehicles and equipment. This is a semi-skilled level position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs safety and preventive maintenance inspections to Streetcars and all related equipment.
  • Performs inspection, diagnosis and repairs on Streetcar A/C / D/C electrical systems.
  • Performs inspection, diagnosis and repair on Streetcar air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Performs inspection, diagnosis and repair on Streetcar compressed air and braking systems.
  • Performs inspection, diagnosis and repair on Streetcar truck assemblies, including wheels, axles, drive motors.
  • Performs inspection, diagnosis and repair on Streetcar interior and body accessories including windows, seats, doors, etc.
  • Performs some service call and emergency repairs in the field.
  • Maintains records of work performed.
  • Assists higher level mechanics in more difficult and complex maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

N ote: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

Education and Experience:

In addition to a High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate, the following are required for each level, per Union contract:

  • B-Technician
    • Graduation from a diesel or mechanical technical school is preferred.
    • Basic mechanical aptitude with at least 1 year of automotive or diesel repair, servicing and maintenance experience.
    • Experience in transit environment, preferred.
  • A-Technician
    • One year as a Streetcar B-Technician
    • Completion of Small Engine Repair Course
    • Electrical 101 (12V-480V) – Four (4) Day Class
    • Completion of High Voltage Electrical Training – NFPA 70E Course
    • Streetcar Air Brake Systems Diagnosis and Repair
    • Streetcar Low Voltage Electrical Systems Diagnosis and Repair
    • Streetcar Suspension Systems and Repair
  • Technician
    • Two years as a Streetcar A-Technician
    • 608 Universal Certification
    • Welding Mig and Arc
    • Streetcar Air Conditioning Diagnosis and Repair
    • Streetcar Traction Power and Subsystems Diagnosis and Repair

Machines, Tools, & Equipment Used:

  • General electrical and maintenance repair tools.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must be able to obtain a Florida Driver’s License within 10 days of hire

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have ability to complete training requirements for Streetcar Safety, Maintenance and Operation
  • Must have ability to acquire EPA 608 certification for refrigerant recovery.
  • Ability to work independently on maintenance projects, troubleshooting, diagnosis and repairs with limited supervision.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize assignments in order to meet established operational deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to interact with the public.
  • Ability to work various shifts, hours and days.
  • Ability to work under stress and interruptions.
  • Ability to interact positively with a variety of personalities internally and externally.
  • Ability to accurately memorize and retain details.
  • Ability to perform calculations with accuracy.

  • Ability to meet attendance and punctuality requirements.
  • Ability to be a flexible, effective team player.
  • Knowledge of methods, practices and procedures, tools and equipment used in inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing components of Streetcar.
  • Working knowledge of occupational hazards, precautions and safety requirements of the associated job duties.

Special Requirement:

  • Must meet established training and test guidelines.
  • A working home phone number.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Ability to hear, see, speak, and perceive color, depth and texture.
  • Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds.
  • May be exposed to potentially intimidating and/or unreceptive members of the public; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, extreme noise and physical harm.
