Job Description

Operates a variety of equipment for the Municipal Services Department including high loaders, snowplows, sweepers, dump trucks, jackhammers, small hand tools, etc. This position may be for day, evening, or night shift hours. Will perform roadside maintenance, snow removal and street sweeping. Performs routine maintenance of equipment. Sets grade for concrete, asphalt, or earthwork projects. May assist other crews as necessary and will train on the operation of heavy equipment. May perform emergency repairs or cleaning duties during regular work hours and performs other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) and two to three years of progressively responsible related experience in general labor and heavy equipment operation. Must have or be able to obtain within six months a valid state Commercial Driver’s License Class B with air brake endorsement without “K” restriction and tanker endorsement. Must have flagger certification and work zone training. Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire. This position will require a self-motivated person with little supervision. Ability to learn the operation of heavy equipment and read and interpret street maps.
Physical Demands: Must be able to stoop, crawl, crouch, reach overhead, negotiate stairs and ramps, climb ladders, bend, and lift up to 45 lbs. plus or minus 25 lbs. Must be able to stand and walk distances on hard floor surfaces and maintain balance on uneven surfaces and in elevated situations.
Typical Working Conditions: Work is performed outdoors in conditions of extreme heat and cold, and severe weather conditions. Day or night shift hours. While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly exposed to possible bodily injury from moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery. The incumbent may be called in after normal hours during emergency conditions.
Working Hours: Normal working hours are 7:00am – 3:30pm Monday-Friday.
Seasonal work hours may include Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday; may also include 3:30pm-12:00am or 12:00am-8:30am.
