Job Description

PIX11 News has an exciting new opening for a Streaming News Producer!

The Streaming News Producer will be responsible for working with the PIX11 management team, especially the Senior Streaming Executive Producer & the Digital Executive Producer, to create live streaming news content that’s intended to be sustained for several hours. This person will be expected to regularly contribute ideas, wear multiple hats and create a unique product that stands out in a crowded streaming marketplace. We want someone who will be vocal and bold, think big, and surprise themselves and our audience every day with unique storytelling methods.

Our ideal candidate has extensive experience producing live content using vMix or Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) – and experience producing local news using those systems is a major plus. Other strong pluses include prior management experience, and/or prior experience producing special projects and events.

PIX11 News is located in the heart of Midtown, in the historic News Building on 42nd Street. Our newsroom has views of iconic New York City buildings such as the United Nations, Chrysler Building and Grand Central Terminal.

Duties

  • Produce live streaming newscasts for PIX11 News, in addition to other video-on-demand (VOD) content for the PIX11+ streaming app

  • Conceptualize programs and manage their content and flow, adjusting quickly to accommodate breaking news and weather

  • Incorporate PIX11’s content pillars into the production of programs

  • Edit/create and request graphic and video elements to supplement news coverage

  • Organize and delegate to ensure booking of timely live interview guests

  • Contribute editorial and production ideas

  • Experiment and innovate in an evolving digital space while maintaining professionalism and journalistic principles

  • Ensure balance, journalistic integrity and strong production quality

  • Upload, annotate and schedule streaming programs to cloud-based playout channel & VOD rows using Akta

  • Assist digital team with the creation of vertical videos promoting content that airs within programs you produce

  • Become an in-house expert for production of pre-produced and breaking streaming programs

  • Coach and teach peers to expand knowledge of streaming production within our organization

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience

  • Fluency in English

  • Strong news judgment and high journalistic integrity

  • Strong awareness of news and current events

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in news operations (depending on market size), including experience producing standard linear newscasts

  • Basic understanding of camera settings, studio lighting, and audio processing

  • Willingness to learn and understand the IT and engineering elements required for successful livestreaming

  • Prior streaming experience required

  • Proficiency with the OBS & vMix production programs

  • Knowledge of NYC media market preferred, but not required

  • Management experience preferred, but not required

  • Prior experience producing special projects and events preferred, but not required

  • Non-linear video editing skills and familiarity with Adobe Premiere video editing software preferred

  • Proficiency with electronic news gathering systems such as ENPS, BitCentral, Latakoo, AP Newsroom, Getty Images and Daybook

  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced newsroom environment

  • Flexibility to work any shift – including overnights, evenings, weekends and holidays – as coverage needs demand staffing changes

Salary Range: $80,000 – $85,000
