Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Strategy Manager who is well versed in the art of business steering and working with multiple stakeholders towards a common strategic goal. The role sits in the Portfolio & Capability Steering tribe as a Capability Steering SPOC, responsible for the effective steering of our significant Capability investments in IT and Network. The role is part of the leadership team of the Tribe.

Your general responsibilities as Strategy Manager:

  • Develops company vision and translates it into concrete business strategies, M&A opportunities or transformation programs
  • Defines strategic agenda and priorities by identifying issues, analyzing problems and providing advice and recommendations that help executive management steer for long-term value creation and business plan delivery, in line with the strategic priorities.
  • Analyses existing strategies and practices and proposes alternatives where necessary. Challenges business strategy based on external positions and (international) market analysis.
  • Supports long-term business planning cycle, including translation of long-term trends and strategic themes into a business plan, in close collaboration with the business leaders
  • Leads and/or initiates strategic projects to stimulate strategic thinking, the coordination of activities and stakeholder management.

Your specific responsibilities as Capability Engine SPOC:

  • Own & facilitate Capability Engine review platforms for IT and Network (agenda, audience, decision outcomes)
  • Co-own road to QBR for CE-IT and CE-Network (with other stakeholders); clicking in with portfolio management
  • Drive CE-IT and CE-Network tracks for POR (theme business cases, overall LG story, ...)
  • Drive CE-IT and CE-Network tracks for Budget, in sync with Finance and business owners
  • Drive CE OKRs / metrics / financial reporting to aid decision making
  • Closely align horizontal steering with vertical incircle reviews

Additional detail on Capability Engine SPOC role:

  • The Capability Engine SPOC is a spider in the web role to coordinate Capability Engine decisioning for both Network and IT, and will need to sync with Tech Strategy and P&T staff to prep key decisions and effective steering
  • Lateral management & Facilitation skills: This person will laterally sync with the P&T Circle/Tribe/VS discussions + drive topics / road-to discussions at the TPO cockpit – lateral management skills are very important
  • Theme business cases: Capability engine planning is predicated on clear thematic business and strategic cases (e.g. Cloud), so the person will need to be to coordinate across multiple Tribe level specialists and TPOs to be able to create and sign off these cases, plus keep them alive as a basis for steering
  • Performance monitoring: How Capability engine performance relates with Company level OKRs, and how this performance is tracked across the year and communicated at QBRs is a critical skill. The person will need to manage a consolidated performance view and steer around this (e.g. on underperforming OKRs)

Our ideal Strategy manager:

  • Strategy background in a large company or as a strategy consultant advising such companies
  • 5-10 years of experience
  • A strategic thinker with robust analytical skills
  • Highly developed written and oral communications skills
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills
  • Proactive and pragmatic – able to prioritize projects and agendas
  • Financial modelling experience is a plus
  • High personal credibility & bridge builder attitude
