Job Description

THE WORK:

  • Join our Strategy practice as part of Industry Strategy – Resources team and play a key role in shaping the future of capital-intensive organizations across the energy transition.
  • Work side by side with global, cross-functional teams to design and deliver strategies that guide major capital investments from early-stage feasibility and project development to commissioning and operations handover.
  • Advise clients on the strategic and commercial dimensions of large-scale capital projects: new greenfield and brownfield plant construction, grid infrastructure expansions, energy storage deployments, data center grid connections, LNG terminals, refinery upgrades, and industrial decarbonization programs.
  • Support clients in structuring capital project portfolios prioritizing investments, sequencing build-out phases, and aligning capital allocation with long-term strategic objectives.
  • Conduct asset portfolio analysis for clients managing large infrastructure or production asset bases assessing reinvestment vs. divestment trade-offs and optimizing portfolios across geographies or business units.
  • Lead strategic engagements from problem framing and analysis to solution design, covering project economics, permitting and regulatory strategy, technology selection, and go/no-go investment decisions.
  • Advise senior executives and project sponsors, delivering insights that shape critical investment decisions at board and C-suite level.
  • Analyze project economics and financial models including CAPEX/OPEX structuring, levelized cost benchmarking, and project finance considerations to turn data into actionable investment strategies.
  • Help clients rethink how capital projects are governed and delivered design and optimize PMO structures, project delivery models, and owner-operator capabilities to improve schedule, cost, and quality outcomes.
  • Apply data-driven insights, digital tools, and engineering simulation outputs to accelerate project decisions and de-risk capital programs.
  • Create high-impact deliverables such as investment committee presentations, strategic roadmaps, feasibility assessments, and capital program playbooks

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, power systems, civil/mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related technical discipline. An additional degree in economics, finance, or business administration is a plus.
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience in strategy consulting, project development, or capital project advisory within the Resources industry (Utilities, Energy/Oil & Gas, Chemicals, or Natural Resources).
  • Hands-on exposure to one or more phases of a capital project lifecycle: feasibility, front-end engineering and design (FEED), permitting, EPC/construction management, commissioning, or operations ramp-up.
  • Experience with contractor or vendor management in a capital project context including procurement strategy, tendering processes, contract negotiation, or construction contractor oversight.
  • Experience in technical or commercial analysis supporting investment decisions including project economics, technology assessments, grid connection studies, or infrastructure planning.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders (C-suite, project sponsors, or regulators) in a consulting or advisory context.
  • Fluency in English and German or French (spoken and written).
  • Willingness to travel and work on client sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in power systems engineering, grid infrastructure, or process plant design with exposure to tools such as PSS/E, PSCAD, PSSE, Python-based engineering analysis, or DigSILENT PowerFactory
  • Experience on cross-border infrastructure or energy transition projects (e.g., grid interconnections, data center power supply, offshore wind, green hydrogen, carbon capture).
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing grid access, permitting, and energy market participation in European markets.
  • Familiarity with major EPC/EPCM contracting models and their risk allocation implications (lump sum, reimbursable, hybrid) across different project types and geographies.
  • MBA or other advanced business degree complementing a technical background.
  • Familiarity with digital tools, AI/ML solutions, or advanced analytics applied to capital project strategy and portfolio management.
  • Additional European language skills.
