He angitūtanga: The opportunity


Auckland Council’s Policy Department has a fantastic, intermediate level opportunity for a motivated strategic spatial thinker to join us as a Strategist, Growth and Spatial Planning.


You will advise on a range of issues that will shape Auckland’s urban form over the next 30 years. You will also have a key role in supporting council achieve integrated solutions to make the most of opportunities presented by Auckland’s growth.

You could expect to work on:

  • developing Auckland’s regional spatial plan and responding to legislative reform
  • ensuring the integration of urban and infrastructure planning
  • building the evidence base to support our work
  • analysing data and producing compelling maps and visualisations

He kōrero mōu: About you



You have demonstrated experience in strategic urban planning and have an understanding of the diverse challenges facing Auckland. You are able to rise above the planning detail and turn information from various sources into compelling strategic advice. We will value your strong people skills and your ability to apply political acumen.

You must have experience in:

  • spatial planning and strategy development
  • providing clear and compelling technical advice to managers or senior leaders
  • building strong relationships and establishing stakeholder trust
  • working with complex datasets and producing basic maps or visualisations
