About the role

At Water Corporation, we're delivering essential water and wastewater services to millions of Western Australians while investing in the technologies that will support the future of our business and our communities.

We're seeking an experienced Principal – Strategic Technology Sourcing to provide commercial leadership across our enterprise Information and Operational Technology portfolio. This is an opportunity to influence major technology investments, lead complex sourcing initiatives and negotiate strategic agreements that support critical business outcomes.

As a recognised subject matter expert, you'll partner with senior leaders, technology specialists and suppliers to develop sourcing strategies, drive value-for-money outcomes and ensure the successful implementation of high-value technology services and projects.

What the role will involve:

  • Develop and deliver category, sourcing and contract strategies for complex enterprise technology services and projects.
  • Lead end-to-end strategic sourcing activities, including market engagement, tender processes, evaluations, negotiations and supplier selection.
  • Provide expert commercial advice on technology sourcing opportunities, risks, commercial models and procurement approaches.
  • Build strong relationships across Information & Technology, operational stakeholders and corporate support functions to align sourcing outcomes with business priorities.
  • Analyse supplier markets, technology trends, business demand and commercial risks to inform sourcing decisions.
  • Design and negotiate commercial arrangements that optimise value, performance and risk.
  • Oversee contract mobilisation, transition and implementation activities through to operational handover.
  • Establish governance and performance frameworks that support supplier accountability and ongoing value realisation.
  • Mentor colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement within the technology sourcing function.

Key skills and experience:

You are a strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen and a proven ability to influence outcomes in complex environments. You enjoy working with senior stakeholders, navigating ambiguity and delivering meaningful business value through effective sourcing and supplier engagement.

To be successful, you'll bring:

  • A degree qualification in business, commercial, procurement, law, technology or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in strategic sourcing, category management and procurement of complex technology services and projects.
  • Demonstrated success leading high-value sourcing activities, including tendering, contract negotiations and supplier selection.
  • Strong commercial, contracting and negotiation expertise.
  • Experience developing sourcing strategies and translating business requirements into market-ready solutions.
  • The ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead cross-functional initiatives without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication skills, including preparation of executive-level recommendations, sourcing strategies and procurement documentation.
  • Knowledge of enterprise technology environments, managed services, cyber security considerations and supplier ecosystems.

Apply: If you are interested in the above opportunity, please submit a covering letter and resume that best demonstrates your ability to meet the requirements of the role.

About Water Corporation

We’re the principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services in Western Australia to hundreds of thousands of homes, businesses and farms, as well as providing bulk water to farms for irrigation.

Our services, projects and activities span over 2.6 million square kilometres. We have regional offices in Perth, Bunbury, Albany, Karratha, Geraldton, Northam and Kalgoorlie which allow our employees to provide a high level of professional expertise to customers.

We have over 3,500 employees and manage an asset base of over $37 billion in water supply, wastewater, drainage infrastructure and bulk water for irrigation.

We’re owned by the Western Australian Government and are accountable to our sole shareholder, the Minister for Water, for delivery of our services in a commercial manner. Most of our surplus is returned to the government as a dividend to contribute to the development of the state, with the remainder reinvested in capital works.

Water Corporation was created in January 1996, in a restructure of the water industry in Western Australia. The Water Authority in turn had been created in 1985 through a merger of the former Metropolitan Water Authority, which operated in Perth, the state capital, and the water and wastewater operations of the former WA Public Works Department. We’re the seventh successive agency to deal with these services in Perth, Western Australia.

We're evolving...

Living on the world’s driest continent, the biggest challenge we face is reducing the impact of climate change.

It’s never been more important to work collaboratively with government, industry, and the community, to secure our water future and take care of our home state.

To support these efforts, our vision focuses on our operations having the lowest possible environmental impact, are safe for all, and are delivered at the lowest total cost.
