Strategic Sourcing Specialist - Africa & Middle East (AME)

The Barrick Africa & Middle East Team are seeking to recruit a Strategic Sourcing Specialist - AME. This role reports to the Sourcing Manager Central AME.

This role is responsible to lead complex, high-value sourcing initiatives and category strategy development running formal tender processes, managing strategic supplier relationships, and delivering measurable savings and value improvements throughout Africa and Middle East.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead formal sourcing events for high-value and strategic categories managing the full process from market engagement through evaluation, negotiation and award.
  • Develop category strategies for assigned spend categories - market analysis, spend baseline, supplier landscape mapping and sourcing strategy recommendation.
  • Manage strategic supplier relationships at category level conducting formal performance reviews and driving continuous improvement.
  • Identify, develop and validate savings initiatives, working with the Data Commercial Analyst on spend analytics and the Contracts Manager on documentation.
  • Support the sourcing standardisation programme by aligning category strategy with standardised specifications and consolidated buys.
  • Manage escalated or complex procurement requirements from sites that cannot be resolved at transactional level.
  • Prepare evaluations for review by the AME Sourcing and Procurement Manager considering freight, duties and taxes to get to a landed cost DDP price to be benchmarked against local pricing.
  • Prepare upload files from evaluations done and approved to be uploaded in the system.
  • Manage the expiry dates in the system on Outline Agreements to ensure sourcing activities are started well in advance to avoid pricing expiring without new agreements in place.
  • Report any contract spend deviations where the teams’ source outside of the contracts in the system.
  • Have monthly contract performance meetings in conjunction with local supply partners for local FPA suppliers and Chinese hub colleagues for Chinese vendors to address any performance concerns.
  • Prepare monthly reports on the progress made on FPA coverage as well as actual contract savings.
  • Achieve an 85% FPA coverage on all fast-moving consumables and spare parts, track the efficiency of the Outline agreements by tracking the actual contract spend that should align with the contract spend.

Qualification Requirements

  • Degree or National Diploma in Supply Chain, Commerce, or related field.
  • CIPS or equivalent preferred.


Experience and Skills Requirements

  • 5+ years in strategic procurement or sourcing, with demonstrated experience running formal tender processes.
  • Category management and strategic sourcing methodology knowledge.
  • Strong negotiation and commercial skills.
  • SAP Ariba and spend analytics proficiency.
  • Ability to manage strategic supplier performance through reviews, issue resolution, improvement plans and stakeholder engagement across regional and site teams.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess landed cost, total cost of ownership, DDP pricing, contract savings, spend compliance and value improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with site procurement teams, commercial analysts, contracts managers, supply partners and regional leadership.
  • Ability to prepare monthly reports on FPA coverage, contract savings, supplier performance and sourcing pipeline progress.
  • Ability to resolve complex procurement requirements and support sites with strategic or non-standard sourcing challenges.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present sourcing recommendations, evaluation outcomes and performance updates clearly to management.
