Job Description

GE Vernova is at the forefront of the global energy transition, powering the world, decarbonizing industry, and supporting global defence through advanced electrical systems.
Grid Automation operations in Stafford, UK, serve as a cornerstone of the global energy transition. By driving the manufacturing and development of critical digital substation equipment, protection systems, and resilient grid software, we seamlessly connect renewable energy sources to the network. Our teams deliver comprehensive solutions—ranging from Modular Substation Automation Systems and utility-scale projects to advanced asset diagnostics and monitoring—that empower grid operators to manage critical assets, detect faults, and ensure a stable, efficient, and maintain a reliable power supply.
As the Strategic Sourcing Specialist you will manage the strategic sourcing of critical electronic, electrical and mechanical components. Leveraging your technical and commercial expertise you will ensure we avoid supply chain volatility, optimise total cost of ownership (TCO), explore our existing global supply chain to identify opportunities to deliver additional support as well as souring when necessary new suppliers to meet the ever-increasing demand. You will partner with cross-functional engineering teams to drive value engineering and "should-cost" initiatives.

This is a hybrid role where will need to be on site for 3 days a week that include Tuesday and Wednesday as non-negotiable anchor days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Sourcing: Develop and execute multi-year sourcing strategies to ensure supply continuity and cost competitiveness. Shift from single-source dependencies to resilient dual-sourcing models.
  • Value Engineering & Cost Out: Collaborate with Design/Technical teams to perform "should-cost" modelling and identify cost-efficient design alternatives. Audit specifications to remove "hidden" cost drivers without impacting product reliability.
  • Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Management: Evaluate and balance the trade-offs between global and local sourcing, including logistics cadences (Kanban/JIT vs. consolidated), lead times, and inventory carrying costs.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Lead high-impact contract negotiations focusing on long-term collaborative partnerships rather than transactional price-busting.
  • Operational Governance: Partner with manufacturing and operations to align KPIs and to prevent premium freight costs through better logistics planning
  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively challenge existing processes, vendor packaging standards, and replenishment frequencies to drive internal cost savings.

What you will bring

  • If you have a qualification in Supply Chain Management or a CIPS qualification this would be a strong advantage but not essential
  • Experience in electronics procurement, technical sourcing, or supply chain management is preferred
  • You can improve KPI alignment in end-to-end operational metrics, reduced premium freight spend vs. optimized inventory levels for example.
  • You are resilience and can reduce in single-source dependencies and improvement in lead-time stability.
  • You can successfully deliver validated structural savings year-over-year cost reduction (Cost Out)
  • Youa re able to interpret technical specifications, BOMs, and manufacturing processes. Experience with Should-Cost software or complex cost modelling preferred.
  • Proven ability to perform TCO analysis, manage cross-functional data, and navigate complex supply chain dynamics.
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence cross-functional teams and challenge the status quo.
  • Strong MS Office proficiency including creating reports and presentations for leadership. If you have SAP experience this would be a strong advantage.
  • Given our extensive international supply chain and frequent collaboration with global manufacturing partners, professional proficiency in a secondary language relevant to our key markets would be a distinct advantage.

We do not sponsor employment visas now or at any time in the future. You must possess unrestricted work authorisation in the UK to be considered for this role
