The Strategic Sourcing Specialist role exists to support St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) and the broader St. Joseph’s Health System (SJHS) in advancing the shared strategic vision of Unstoppable Compassion. The role enables safe, reliable, and cost‑effective access to goods and services that are essential to patient care and hospital operations, ensuring that clinical and operational teams are equipped to deliver high‑quality, compassionate care.

Operating within a publicly funded healthcare environment, the Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for stewarding taxpayer dollars through ethical, transparent, and competitive procurement practices aligned with Ontario Broader Public Sector (BPS) requirements. By applying analytical expertise, market knowledge, and strong stakeholder collaboration, the role contributes to value‑for‑money outcomes, mitigates supply and financial risk, and strengthens a sustainable supply chain that supports hospital performance and public trust.

Qualifications

  • Three (3)‑year diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or a related discipline from an accredited College.required
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Commerce, Supply Chain Management, or a related field from an accredited College or University preferred
  • Successful or demonstrated progress towards: Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB), Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO), Certified Supply Chain Management
    Professional (CSCMP)
  • Ontario Public Buyers Association (OPBA), Supply Chain Canada, National Institute of Government Purchasing (NIGP) preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management within a public sector, healthcare, or complex regulated environment, supporting value‑for‑money and operational outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience leading competitive procurement processes, including the development and execution of RFPs, RFTs, and RFIs, from requirements gathering through evaluation, award, and documentation
  • Experience working with Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), such as Mohawk Medbuy Corporation, including contract adoption, standardization initiatives, and collaboration with logistics and warehouse operations to support product availability and continuity of supply
  • Proven experience supporting diverse hospital stakeholder groups, including clinical programs focused on patient outcomes, Digital/IT teams supporting technology enabled care, and Redevelopment or capital infrastructure projects
  • Experience working within Ontario Broader Public Sector (BPS) procurement requirements, trade agreements, and internal governance frameworks, ensuring transparency, compliance, and audit readiness.
  • Hands‑on experience using enterprise procurement systems (e.g., Workday or similar), including purchase order processing, item master and supplier data management, reporting, spend analysis, and issue resolution.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the end‑to‑end development and execution of Requests for Proposal (RFPs), Requests for Tender (RFTs), and Requests for Information (RFIs) for hospital supplies, services, and equipment. This includes requirements gathering, drafting solicitation documents, defining evaluation criteria, managing bid processes, and supporting evaluation teams to achieve value‑for‑money outcomes that enable safe, compassionate patient care
  • Act as a key liaison with Mohawk Medbuy Corporation (MMC) to leverage group purchasing agreements for hospital supplies and equipment. Work closely with SJHH’s Logistics teams and the HLI warehouse to support contract implementation, product conversions, standardization initiatives, and inventory availability, ensuring contracted supplies are readily accessible for clinical and operational use. Resolve supply, service, and performance issues to support continuity of care and operational efficiency.
  • Provide strategic sourcing support to a broad range of hospital partners, including clinical programs supporting patient care and outcomes, Digital Solutions technology investments, and Redevelopment and capital infrastructure initiatives. Translate diverse operational, clinical, and technical requirements into effective sourcing strategies and competitive procurement processes that support patient safety, care quality, operational readiness, and long‑term sustainability
  • Ensure all sourcing activities comply with Ontario Broader Public Sector (BPS) requirements, trade agreements, and internal policies. Contribute to procurement governance, documentation, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen transparency, accountability, and public trust
  • Collaborate with SJHS and affiliated health system partners to support coordinated sourcing initiatives, shared contracts, standardization opportunities, and alignment with system‑wide procurement strategies. Contribute to collective value realization, risk mitigation, and consistency across the health system
  • Apply and support effective use of the Workday supply chain management, including assisting with or providing guidance related to purchase order processing, item master data management, supplier records, and requisition workflows. This responsibility also includes supporting contract administration, maintaining accurate procurement data, conducting spend analysis and reporting, resolving system or transaction issues.
