The opportunity
As Global Commodity Manager – Electronics, you will be responsible for defining and executing global sourcing strategies for electronic components, with a strong focus on semiconductor spend managed via EMS partners
You will drive cost competitiveness, supply security, and supplier sustainability across a complex, global electronics footprint supporting power electronics, control systems, and digital platforms.
This role works closely with R&D, Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, and EMS partners to ensure long-term availability and best total cost of ownership for critical semiconductor technologies.
How you'll make impact
Commodity & Strategy Leadership
Develop and execute global category strategies for electronics and semiconductors, with emphasis on EMS-managed components
Own global semiconductor spend visibility, leveraging EMS partnerships while maintaining strategic control
Define multi-year roadmaps aligned with technology evolution, lifecycle management, and risk mitigation
Lead make/buy and sourcing strategy decisions in collaboration with Engineering and Manufacturing
Supplier & EMS Management
Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key semiconductor manufacturers, distributors, and EMS partners
Lead supplier segmentation, preferred supplier frameworks, and long-term agreements
Drive quarterly business reviews with EMS and critical semiconductor suppliers
Manage dual-sourcing and second-source strategies to improve supply resilience
Cost, Risk & Performance
Deliver cost reduction initiatives through design-to-cost, should-cost models, and commercial negotiations
Monitor market trends, pricing dynamics, and geopolitical risks in the semiconductor supply chain
Proactively manage obsolescence, allocation risks, and lifecycle transitions
Ensure supplier performance across cost, quality, delivery, and sustainability metrics
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner closely with R&D and Engineering on new product introductions, component standardization, and technology selection
Support global manufacturing sites by aligning category strategies with operational execution
Ensure sourcing strategies align with Hitachi Energy compliance, ESG, and sustainability goals
Contribute to continuous improvement of procurement processes, tools, and governance
Your Background
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Electronics, or Business
5+ years experience in global commodity management or strategic sourcing
Strong experience with electronics and semiconductor supply chains
Proven exposure to EMS-based sourcing models (highly preferred)
Demonstrated success in global supplier negotiations and category strategy development
Solid understanding of semiconductor lifecycle, allocation, and obsolescence management
Experience with SAP and advanced sourcing/analytics tools
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Comfortable operating in a matrix, global organization
Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus
