A Day in the Life

Join our Operations Sourcing team as the Strategic Sourcing Program Manager where you will lead critical supplier stability programs and cross-functional initiatives designed to strengthen supply continuity, improve operational efficiency, optimize inventory strategies, and mitigate supply risk across all Twin Cities manufacturing locations. In this role, you will partner closely with site leadership, Operating Units (OU), and key functional stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and execute high impact supply stability initiatives while aligning resources and securing funding to support program objectives.

You will also play a key role in advancing Manufacturing Planning & Scheduling (MPS) maturity within the Operations Sourcing team and across the broader Global Supply Management organization, driving standardization, capability development, and best practices that enhance supply reliability and operational performance.

As the Strategic Sourcing Program Manager, you will:

  • Drive Operational Excellence: Lead Operations Sourcing initiatives that improve supplier delivery performance and strengthen Supplier On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) results.

  • Mitigate Supply Risk: Conduct supplier capacity assessments, identify potential supply risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure supply continuity.

  • Lead Portfolio & Risk Programs: Partner with Operating Units and suppliers to identify, prioritize, and execute supplier risk reduction and supply stability initiatives.

  • Advance Continuous Improvement: Strengthen Tier Management and Operations Sourcing standard work in alignment with MPS principles, driving functional excellence and a zero‑loss mindset.

  • Develop Strategic Roadmaps: Build and execute margin expansion and material cost optimization roadmaps in collaboration with Category Management, GO&SC Manufacturing, Planning, and Operating Units.

  • Deliver Cost Improvements: Support supplier negotiations and lead cost reduction initiatives across assigned suppliers, including management of tail spend optimization and SUCCESS program initiatives.

  • Leverage Data & Innovation: Use analytics to segment suppliers, identify improvement opportunities, and incorporate technology innovations from the supply base to support long‑term cost optimization.

  • Strengthen Supplier Partnerships: Lead supplier negotiations, performance management, and strategic initiatives such as rationalization, simplification, localization, and make/buy or outsourcing decisions.

  • Enable Risk Reduction Execution: Drive supplier capacity and material stability programs and partner with Operating Units to secure resources required to complete mitigation projects.

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree plus minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain, procurement, operations, or program management or an advanced degree plus a minimum of 3 years of experience in strategic sourcing, supply chain, procurement, operations, or program management

Nice to Have

  • Experience with supplier performance management, cost reduction initiatives, and contract or commercial negotiations.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data, metrics, and reporting to drive decision-making and supplier performance improvements.

  • Experience assessing and mitigating supply chain risks, including supplier capacity and supply continuity planning.

  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Planning & Scheduling (MPS), tier management, or operational excellence frameworks.

  • Experience developing and executing material cost optimization or margin expansion strategies.

  • Strong program and portfolio management skills with the ability to lead multiple initiatives across sites or business units.

  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders across operations, planning, category management, and leadership teams.

  • Advanced skills in supply chain analytics, supplier segmentation, and performance management tools.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$113,600.00 - $170,400.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
