Job Description

Emerson has an excellent opportunity for a Strategic Planner to join the Measurement Solutions organization. This hybrid position based in Costa Rica, and will support our global business imperatives.

The Strategic Planner will serve as an integrated business partner to the Measurement Systems and Solutions Solutions business unit leadership team. This individual will help shape strategy, improve decision quality, and strengthen the management system by connecting business priorities, market insights, planning processes, and applied artificial intelligence. The role is designed for a high-potential professional who can work alongside senior leaders, synthesize complex information, and translate strategic thinking into practical execution.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Strategic Partnership and Executive Support

  • Serve as a trusted and integrated business partner to the Measurement Systems and Solutions (MSS) senior leadership team, actively participating in the regional management system.
  • Partner with business leaders to identify strategic risks, growth opportunities, and second- and third-order impacts that may affect business performance.
  • Bring independent perspective and sound judgment to strategic discussions, going beyond data synthesis to provide actionable recommendations.
  • Lead the preparation and facilitation of board meetings, growth conferences, site reviews, leadership events, and other high-visibility strategic forums.
  • Support the development and execution of strategic initiatives from ideation and structuring through execution, tracking, and leadership communication.
  • Act as a key connection point between the business unit's global leadership team to align priorities and improve strategic execution.

Strategy, Planning, and Decision Support

  • Conduct business, market, and scenario analyses to support growth planning and executive decision-making.
  • Translate data, market signals, and leadership input into clear insights, implications, and recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Lead or support market research and deep-dive analyses on growth areas, competitive dynamics, customer needs, and strategic risks.
  • Support the planning and execution of growth workshops, strategy reviews, and follow-up actions that drive measurable business results.
  • Combine business judgment with AI-enabled analysis to uncover non-obvious insights and improve the speed and quality of strategic decisions.

AI-Enabled Planning and Process Design

  • Design and maintain AI-enabled workflows for strategy reviews, board meeting preparation, leadership events, market research, and recurring planning processes.
  • Develop planning tools, prompts, templates, and repeatable processes that reduce manual content development and increase capacity for strategic discussions.
  • Partner with relevant internal teams, including the MSOL AI Capability Center when applicable, to build effective AI-enabled planning practices.
  • Establish quality standards and review processes to ensure AI-generated outputs meet leadership expectations for accuracy, rigor, relevance, and insight.
  • Guide colleagues and stakeholders on the practical and responsible use of AI in strategic work.
  • Document best practices, lessons learned, and productivity or quality improvements generated through AI-enabled workflows.

Who You Are:

  • You are a strategic thinker who is comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and influencing without direct authority. You build credibility with senior leaders by listening carefully, asking insightful questions, and providing clear, practical recommendations. You can synthesize complex information across markets, functions, and business units, and you are confident in turning imperfect information into a path forward. You are both curious and pragmatic about artificial intelligence, using it as an enabler of stronger thinking and execution rather than an end in itself. You collaborate effectively across cultures, functions, and geographies, and you are motivated by work that connects strategy to business impact.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of relevant experience in strategy, business planning, commercial operations, finance, product management, marketing, engineering, or another business-oriented analytical function.
  • Experience developing analyses, presentations, or recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and executive presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across countries, cultures, functions, and time zones in a regional or global business environment.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regionally or globally as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

  • MBA completed or in progress.
  • Experience in industrial automation, measurement solutions, process industries, energy, chemicals, life sciences, mining, or related B2B industrial markets.
  • Experience working across Latin American markets, particularly Brazil, Mexico, or Costa Rica.
  • Proficiency in Portuguese and/or Spanish.
  • Experience leveraging AI, automation, analytics, or digital tools to improve planning, research, reporting, or decision-making processes.
  • Experience supporting strategy reviews, annual planning, growth programs, market analysis, or executive business reviews.
