  • Salary commencing at $100,577.59 per annum, plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.

The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an experienced Strategic Planner to join our Growth and Economic Development team and play a key role in shaping the future growth and development of Moonee Valley. In this role, you will provide high-level strategic planning advice and contribute to projects that support Council’s Corporate Strategy and the ongoing review of the Moonee Valley Planning Scheme. You will work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to develop evidence-based planning policies, strategies and projects that respond to emerging land use planning challenges.

You will have the opportunity to work across a range of strategic planning matters including housing, commercial and industrial development, open space, heritage, transport, conservation and environmental planning, while engaging with the community, government agencies, consultants and other stakeholders to deliver integrated planning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and contribute to strategic planning projects, ensuring integrated planning outcomes and effective project delivery.
  • Undertake research, analysis and community consultation to inform strategic plans and planning policy across a range of land use planning areas.
  • Develop strong internal and external relationships and prepare submissions, briefings and professional advice for a range of stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present Council submissions at formal planning hearings, including Panel Hearings and/or Planning Tribunals.
  • Prepare project briefs, manage consultants and contribute to cross-organisational studies, working groups and strategic planning initiatives.

Skills & Experience

You will have a tertiary qualification in Urban Planning, Urban Geography, Social Sciences or a closely related field, together with relevant professional experience in strategic planning or planning policy development within a State and local planning context. Experience in statutory planning is desirable. You will have strong knowledge and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply the Planning and Environment Act 1987, Victorian Planning Provisions and local planning schemes, along with strong research, analytical, problem-solving and project management skills. You will also bring excellent written, verbal, presentation and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate complex planning matters clearly to diverse stakeholders, build effective relationships, contribute to multidisciplinary projects and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes. Experience contributing to community engagement activities, Panel or Tribunal hearings, working groups and Council meetings will be highly regarded.
