Job Description

Heathrow Airport has an established noise strategy that aligns with both UK and international policy. As Heathrow progresses toward expansion, meeting the requirements of the Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS), completing the Airspace Change Process (ACP), and securing a Development Consent Order (DCO) are all essential steps. Within this context, the assessment of noise‑related health impacts and the development of an effective noise management and mitigation strategy will be critical to achieving a successful and sustainable outcome.

Working alongside the Head of Noise Strategy, Heathrow Expansion Programme colleagues, and external consultants particularly those involved in airspace design, carbon, and air quality this role acts as Heathrow’s subject‑matter expert for integrating the assessment of air, ground, and construction noise, along with associated health impacts, into the Heathrow noise strategy. In managing and mitigating these impacts, the role ensures strategic alignment and continuity between the existing Heathrow Noise Strategy and Noise Action Plan (NAP), and the noise assessment, modelling, and mitigation components of Heathrow Expansion. The role also ensures compatibility with other environmental topics addressed within the Environmental Impact Assessment.

  • Apply the strategic direction provided by Heathrow Airport Limited’s issue expert, the Head of Noise Strategy, to guide the approach to noise assessment for Expansion, ensuring alignment and consistency with Heathrow’s overall noise strategy and Noise Action Plans.
  • Provide strategic input to support the EIA Planning Team in delivering day‑to‑day work tasks within the agreed schedule and budget, ensuring all outputs required for the Development Consent Order are high‑quality and aligned with long‑term strategic objectives. When required, support the commissioning, management, and coordination of specialist consultants appointed to assess noise and health impacts.
  • Support the Head of Noise Strategy and the wider Heathrow team in developing the future noise strategy for the short, medium, and long term, covering the period from 2026 through to 2050.
  • Within the framework of Heathrow Airport Limited’s established noise strategy, lead stakeholder engagement on expansion related air, ground, and construction noise, ensuring effective dialogue and strong external representation.
  • Lead day‑to‑day collaboration with the expansion and airspace design teams to ensure that mitigation measures for noise and health impacts are integrated into the design, are compatible with other mitigation requirements, and meet the expectations set out in the Airports National Policy Statement (ANPS).
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external experts to develop a thorough understanding of future operational concepts both on the ground and in the air so that noise impacts can be effectively identified, assessed, and appropriately mitigated.
  • Build strong internal and external technical relationships, lead stakeholder engagement groups, identify and drive opportunities to enhance environmental performance in Heathrow’s future operations, and provide subject‑matter expertise to support the Environmental Assessment Team through technical analysis and reporting.
  • Holds a relevant degree, with strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Possesses in depth knowledge of noise planning, noise management policies, and acoustics.
  • Experienced in the transport sector, including strategic and/or assessment focused roles.
  • Skilled in conducting environmental assessments for major development schemes seeking planning consent.
  • Experienced in health impact assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage external consultants, including oversight of budgets and timelines.
  • Comfortable working within large and distributed teams, achieving results through effective collaboration.
  • A confident influencer who can articulate strategic needs clearly and inspire commitment and follow through from others.
