The Pima County Health Department is seeking a skilled Public Health Program Intern to drive implementation of the current strategic plan and workforce development efforts. This grant-funded temporary position reports to the Strategic Initiatives Program Manager, this role supports department-wide performance improvement and ensures compliance with public health accreditation standards. The internship will run until 10/29/27 and candidates must commit to part-time hours (20–30 hours per week). Key responsibilities include leading the implementation and monitoring of the department’s strategic plan, tracking progress, preparing reports and presentations for community events, conferences, and internal meetings. Additionally, this role enhances the department’s learning environment by assessing employee desk procedures, and supporting employee growth through training programs aligned with national public health standards. Essential Functions:

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in a graduate degree program in Public Health, Health Policy, Epidemiology, or related level degree program. Must have a bachelor's degree from a four-year institution.

Preferred Qualifications (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, management, or business administration.

  • Experience facilitating group meetings, focus groups, community forums, and working in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural and multi-sectoral partnerships.

  • Experience in leading/facilitating strategic planning in non-profit, public, private organizations/agencies.

  • Experience in collaboration, developing, and maintaining intradepartmental relationships.

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in paraprofessional or professional administration.

  • Experience with/knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Selection Procedure
Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources.
