Position Type: Full-Time

About Peak Energy

Peak Energy is the first American venture to advance globally proven Sodium-Ion battery systems as the storage standard for the new era of renewable energy on a resilient grid.

Sodium-Ion is cheap, readily available and safe, making it the leading contender in a rapidly evolving market. Our leadership team is powered by decades of expertise in scaling gigawatt-level innovation at world-class companies such as Tesla, Northvolt, Apple, Powin, Enovix, Zipline, Solid Power, and Fluence. We are backed by strategic investment and product partners such as TDK Ventures and Eclipse Ventures.

We are a team of engineers, operators, entrepreneurs, and partners driven by a shared ambition to set the new performance standard for renewable energy and grid resilience.

About the Role – Strategic Finance Lead

We're building out a Strategic Finance function to cover the analytical and strategic work our VP of Finance can no longer cover alone as the company scales. This is a high-autonomy, high-visibility role: you'll model potential commercial deals and pricing, bring a financial lens to S&OP planning to keep working capital in check as we scale manufacturing, and support fundraising, capital structuring, and investor and board communications. You will work directly with executive leadership and, at times, the board. You'll partner closely with our Senior Finance Manager, who owns FP&A, cost-down execution, and working capital modeling, to make sure operational financial reality is reflected in every strategic model and financing conversation.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, motivated, and willing to roll their sleeves up. An ability to operate independently is critical as a substantial amount of time will be spent working cross-functionally as well as interfacing directly with external parties.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Partnerships and Commercial Finance

  • Partner with Commercial on customer pricing strategy, contract structuring, and margin analysis across the project pipeline, including new international markets.
  • Build and maintain financial models for strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and other potential transactions, with full scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  • Lead financial due diligence and deal-structuring analysis for new business arrangements, partnering with Legal and Business Development.
  • Build repeatable pricing and deal-economics frameworks, stress-testing decisions against cost, working capital, and cash flow assumptions in partnership with the Senior Finance Manager.
  • Present deal and pricing economics and recommendations directly to executive leadership.

Working Capital & Supply Chain Finance

  • Partner with Supply Chain and Operations to bring a financial lens to S&OP planning — shaping inventory, production, and procurement decisions to optimize working capital as order volume scales.
  • Build working capital models that translate S&OP plans into cash and financing requirements, in partnership with the Senior Finance Manager.
  • Structure letters of credit, bank guarantees, and other trade finance instruments needed to support supply chain commitments and customer contracts.
  • Explore and structure creative financing solutions — inventory financing, supply chain finance, revolving credit, and similar instruments — to fund working capital without straining the balance sheet.

Investor Relations, Capital Raising and & Board Engagement

  • Support the VP of Finance and CEO in preparing materials for equity and debt raises — financial models, data rooms, and investor presentations.
  • Model capital structure scenarios (equity, venture debt, project finance) to inform fundraising strategy, timing, and cash runway, and support cap table and ownership-scenario analysis.
  • Build board materials and investor updates that translate operational and financial performance into a clear strategic narrative.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the VP of Finance on ad hoc analyses supporting executive and board-level decisions, flexing to whatever the highest-leverage finance problem is at a given moment.

What You’ll Bring (Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field. MBA or CFA a plus, not required.
  • 8+ years in strategic finance, corporate development, investment banking, private equity/venture capital, or FP&A at a high-growth startup — hardware, manufacturing, or energy experience is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated experience building complex financial models for M&A, partnerships, joint ventures, or capital-raise transactions.
  • Direct experience supporting or leading an equity or debt capital raise.
  • Excellent financial modeling skills and genuine comfort building structure from ambiguity — this role won't come with a playbook.
  • Strong executive communication skills; able to work directly with C-suite and, at times, board-level stakeholders.

Peak Energy is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. We strongly encourage women, people of color, and individuals from underrepresented groups to apply. We value skills, potential, and perspective over specific credentials. If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn’t look perfect on paper, we still want to hear from you.

Our Core Values

  • Speed Through Focus- Move fast but understand why. Focus on the goal, don't sacrifice quality.
  • Mission Over Self- It's about the greater good; confident humility. Take ownership and accountability.
  • Face the Brutal Truth- Transparency, honesty, big picture curiosity. Fearless decision making.
  • Be a Good Person- Kindness, collaboration and teamwork

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $150,000 – $200,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. Our competitive benefits package includes:

  • Flexible time off
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Strong 401(k) plan
  • Equity opportunities
