Reporting to the Assistant Director of Strategic Events, this position works with the Strategic Events team in the planning, developing and the execution of strategic events and to garner maximum exposure and support for the university’s mission, goals and priorities. This position collaborates with colleagues in the University of Idaho Foundation, University Events and the President and Provost offices. The position provides event support and guidance, ensuring that all events advance the university’s brand, organizational objectives and development strategies.
Position Overview
The Strategic Events Manager oversees the organization, management and event support for all university events.
Duties will include:
Project management of executive-level university events
Maintain operating budgets
Sourcing and managing external suppliers and vendors
Serve as communication, marketing and guest services specialist for events
Manage and analyze event data
Managing, coordinating and facilitating unified communications for events
Serve as an expert resource for the campus event registration system
Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external staff, faculty and volunteers Collaborating with internal departments
Three years of event leadership and management experience including:
Development and implementation of programs, activities and large-scale projects, which include conceptualizing, coordinating detailed plans and follow through to meet deadlines
Execution of outcome-based events that promote or advance a brand and/or support organizational objectives
Managing multiple projects and events with competing timelines
Required Education
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Other
Willingness to travel and work extended hours with a flexible schedule, which may include weekends and holidays
Must have valid driver’s license and ability to meet U of I driving requirements
Additional Preferred
Experience in marketing design and communications
Knowledge of event industry standards, best practices, and trends
Experience in fundraising or advancement
Exceptional verbal and written communication and editing skills
Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail and meticulous organizational skills
Experience using Constituent Relationship Management ( CRM) technology and event management software
Two years of project management experience
Experience in operational efficiency and optimal use of resources; an aptitude for use of data and metrics in decision-making; the ability to plan, monitor, and tightly manage a budget
Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a high-stress environment, identifying and independently resolving problems swiftly
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Ability to move about and between venues for extended periods of time up to a full day of work
Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move materials up to 25 pounds
