Our client, a well-established international mining solutions provider with a strong footprint in Africa, is looking for a Strategic Business Development Manager to spearhead growth across East, West, and Central Africa while strengthening its Southern African presence. This is a market access and opportunity origination role, ideal for a technically strong sales hunter who thrives on opening doors and building long-term relationships at operational level.
Market Expansion & Territory Development
Drive strategic expansion into East, West, and Central Africa.
Identify and map high-potential mining operations and projects.
Establish new country presence where brand footprint is limited.
Open access to mining houses and operations in new territories.
Identify greenfield and brownfield project opportunities.
Operational & Engineering-Level Relationship Building
Develop and maintain strong relationships with:
Engineering Managers
Section & Project Engineers
Shaft Engineers
Senior Foremen
Engineering Superintendents
Operational technical decision-makers
Understand site-level operational pain points.
Identify equipment upgrade, replacement, and expansion needs.
Detect project-level opportunities early and build trust on site.
Opportunity Identification & Commercial Qualification
Proactively identify upgrade, expansion, and replacement opportunities.
Conduct initial technical and commercial qualification.
Map cross-divisional opportunities within each operation.
Introduce product specialists at the appropriate stage.
Support integrated, multi-division solution positioning.
Cross-Divisional Coordination
Act as the commercial gateway into targeted mines.
Coordinate internally across:
Communications & Automation
Electrical Infrastructure
Transport & Shaft Safety
Consumables
Ensure structured opportunity handover and alignment.
Promote integrated solution offerings where appropriate.
Market Intelligence & Strategic Insight
Track mining expansions and capital projects across the region.
Monitor competitor positioning and market trends.
Identify digitisation and automation trends in mining.
Provide regional insights to senior sales leadership.
Minimum 10 years’ experience in mining industry sales.
Proven background in mine communications and/or automation sales.
Demonstrated experience selling into:
Engineering Managers
Section Engineers
Project Engineers
Senior Foremen
Relevant tertiary qualification in:
Engineering, Mining, Electrical, Automation, or related technical/commercial field.
Established network within African mining operations.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Strong exposure to underground mining environments.
Experience operating across multiple African jurisdictions.
Proven success entering and developing new geographic territories.
Experience coordinating multi-product or integrated solutions.
Familiarity with African procurement structures.
Experience engaging EPCM firms and contractors.
Technically credible and confident engaging engineering teams.
A strategic “hunter” with a strong opportunity origination mindset.
Self-driven, resilient, and comfortable working independently.
Thinks cross-portfolio rather than product-specific.
Experienced in building trusted, long-term operational relationships.
Well-networked across at least 3–4 Sub-Saharan African countries.
