He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience (HWFR) department is dedicated to managing, planning, and developing stormwater systems. We work collaboratively with iwi and communities to future-proof Auckland’s water, ensuring healthy environments and resilient stormwater systems.
We are seeking passionate and motivated interns to join our Catchment Modelling and Stormwater Quality teams, supporting separate work programmes that span several technical fields including hydraulic modelling, environmental data analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). You will work alongside senior staff and technical leads to help build flood resilience and improve Auckland’s stormwater systems.
What you’ll be doing during your internship
During your 12-week internship, you’ll be part of either the Catchment Modelling or Stormwater Quality teams, supporting mahi that contributes to understanding, managing, and improving Auckland’s stormwater systems and flood resilience outcomes.

You have a keen interest in hydrological processes, stormwater systems, and the use of digital tools to support better environmental decision making. You are keen to apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges. You bring strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset, along with strong technical skills and experience in data analytics, GIS, environmental systems and/or hydraulic modelling.
