Stormwater Maintenance Worker I / II / III

Full-time | Monday through Friday | 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The City of Olathe is seeking applicants for a Stormwater Maintenance Workerposition to perform maintenance and repair of the City’s stormwater infrastructure. This is a hands-on, outdoor position that helps protect public safety, improve drainage, and support environmental stewardship across the community.
This opportunity may be a strong fit for candidates with experience in construction, public works, landscaping, parks maintenance, utilities, drainage, horticulture, equipment operation, or other outdoor labor roles Candidates may be hired at the I, II, or III level depending on qualifications and experience.
Compensation
Stormwater Maintenance Worker I:starting at $19.75/hour, up to $26.27
Stormwater Maintenance Worker II:starting at $21.75/hour, up to $28.90
Stormwater Maintenance Worker III:starting at $23.75/hour, up to $31.79
Placement will be based on qualifications and experience. Advancement through levels includes increased responsibility and pay.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll help maintain Olathe’s stormwater system through work such as:
Cleaning, repairing, and maintaining storm drains, ditches, channels, culverts, and other drainage infrastructure
Removing debris, sediment, and vegetation that affect water flow
Performing landscape and vegetation maintenance in and around stormwater facilities
Operating hand tools, power tools, trucks, trailers, and maintenance equipment
Assisting with erosion control, drainage improvements, and infrastructure repairs
Supporting other Public Works operations as assigned, including storm response activities
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver’s license and favorable driving record
Stormwater Maintenance Worker I
Related experience in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resource management, landscape maintenance, horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
Stormwater Maintenance Worker II
One to two years of experience in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resource management, landscape maintenance, horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
Stormwater Maintenance Worker III
At least two years of experience in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resource management, landscape maintenance, horticulture, or a related field is preferred.

This is an entry level, semi- skilled, position under the direction of a Stormwater Team Supervisor, serving on a designated work crew. Work includes maintaining water control structures (storm water inlets, boxes, and pipes), erosion control structures, open channels (natural & improved), detention and retention ponds, vegetation maintenance and establishment, system inspection and verification of new and existing structures.
Experience and Education Guidelines: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
Experience One-year experience in construction, infrastructure maintenance, natural resource management, landscape maintenance, horticulture or a related field preferred. Applicant must be at least 18 years old.
Education High School diploma/GED.
Licenses and Certificates Possess a valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record. Class B commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement must be obtained within six months of employment. Work Zone Safety Certification, flagging, confined space, shoring and snow fighter training must be obtained within one year of hire.
