The City of Roanoke is looking for a hands-on, hardworking individual to join the Green Infrastructure team within the Stormwater Division of Public Works. In this role, you'll help keep the City's flood lots, rights-of-way, and other public facilities looking great and functioning well, all while building real, practical skills in landscaping and turf management.

You'll spend your days operating basic landscaping tools and equipment, including weed eaters, saws, and other small power tools, to mow, trim, and maintain public spaces throughout the City. Along the way, you'll learn the fundamentals of turf management, planting, mulching, and general landscape upkeep, with plenty of hands-on training and guidance from experienced team members.

Your responsibilities will also include assisting with facility maintenance tasks such as aeration, grading, seeding, and sodding, as well as helping clean and maintain the tools and equipment you use every day. When winter weather hits, you'll pitch in on snow removal, and you may also be called on to support special events or emergency response efforts, which can include some nights and weekends. Keeping accurate log sheets and checklists for your daily tasks will be part of the job as well.

Within 12 months of hire, you'll need to obtain a Class B CDL with a Tanker endorsement. You'll also be expected to complete basic training and certifications during your first year, including safety certifications and training on landscape tools operation.

To be considered for this position, you'll need a high school diploma or GED, along with training in a relevant trade area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
