About the organisation

He Waka Tapu is a Kaupapa Maori organisation who have been supporting individuals and the community for over 30 years. He wWaka Tapu works to increase the health and wellbeing of whānau.

About the role

You will be part of a new team at He Waka Tapu who will deliver a Hauora Māori Stop Smoking service. As a Stop Smoking Practitioner (SSP) you will work collaboratively with our services and our external referrers.

You will work with whaiora and community to find ways of quitting that are supportive and encouraging. Creating stop smoking plan’s that are responsive to the needs of whaiora that include individual sessions, facilitating support groups and promoting the SS programme via community clinics and events.

Full training on NRT products will be provided along with basic engagement, assessment and planning competencies.

Skills and experience

• A minimum Level 3 Health tohu/qualification
• Experience in creating with whaiora Wellbeing and/or Goal planning
• A high standard of professionalism and work ethic
• Outstanding motivational and communication skills
• An ability to contribute positively within a team
• Experience working within the health environment
• Understanding or knowledge of addiction
• Knowledge of kaupapa and tikanga Māori and a willingness to be developed further
