Located in the heart of Providence, Rhode Island, Manchester Street Station is nestled on 12 acres in the Historic Jewelry District near the Providence River. The plant produces 510 MWs, using natural gas as its primary fuel with fuel oil as a secondary. Manchester Street Station is seeking an energetic, self-motivated Stockroom Clerk to manage inventory, receive shipments, request quotes, place orders, and issuing materials to plant personnel. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, and is represented by UWUA, Local 310.
Job Functions:
Perform work ranging from routine issuing, receiving, and maintaining all items in the stockroom and full utilization of stockroom computer system(s), which is primarily Maximo. This role involves maintaining accurate records of inventory levels, ensuring that the stockroom is organized and clean. Job tasks will range from routine materials issues to complex receiving problems and full knowledge of stockroom operations. Duties to include, but are not limited to:
- Receiving Shipments: Inspect and receive incoming shipments of materials and products. Verify the accuracy of shipments by checking delivery notes, packing slips, and purchase orders.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records through data entry and regular physical counts. Monitor stock levels and report any discrepancies or shortages to the supervisor.
- Organizing Stockroom: Arrange and organize stock in the storage area in a systematic manner, ensuring items are easy to locate and access. Rotate stock as needed to ensure older items are used first.
- Order Fulfillment: Pick, pack, and prepare materials for distribution or shipment according to order specifications. Ensure the accuracy of orders before dispatching.
- Quality Control: Inspect materials and products for damage or defects upon arrival and prior to distribution. Report any issues to the appropriate department.
- Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a clean and safe working environment in the stockroom. Follow all safety guidelines and protocols to prevent accidents or injuries.
- Communication: Coordinate with other departments, such as purchasing, maintenance, and operations, to coordinate the availability and delivery of materials. Provide updates on inventory status as required.
- Record-Keeping: Keep detailed records of all stockroom transactions, including receipts, disbursements, and inventory adjustments. Use inventory management software to track stock levels.
- Assisting with Audits: Assist in periodic inventory audits and help reconcile any discrepancies found during these audits.
- Utilize hand tools and materials handling equipment (forklifts, hand trucks)
- Participate in on-the-job training.
- Perform work assignments within other departments at times of peaks loads, major operating problems, and emergency situations.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and assist in full physical inventory audits.
- Maintain and update Material Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for warehouse chemicals.
- Manage stock rotation and ensure shelf-life materials are properly controlled.
- Prepare and kit materials for upcoming maintenance activities.
- Track and issue Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to plant personnel.
- Coordinate shipments and returns with vendors.
- Support other departments during peak loads, major operating problems, and emergency situations.
- Comply with all company safety and environmental regulations, including safe work practices as described in the company "Safety Guidelines" and Safety Manual, and use of personal protective equipment.
The hourly rate for this position is $33.83-39.78 depending on qualifications
This position requires the ability to work 8 consecutive hours of work on a standard daily shift, with the potential for both emergent (call-in) and planned support. The company values work/life balance, however, a requirement of this job that emergent overtime will be worked occasionally, and planned overtime will be worked during high peak times.
Education and Experience :
- A High School diploma or GED is required.
- Proficiency in inventory management software and basic computer skills.
- Familiarity with Inventory Management, Requesting Quotes, Ordering, Cycle Counts, and GL structure.
- Possess basic math skills, must be able to understand and perform mathematical computation, including algebra and basic trigonometry at a high school graduate level.
- A valid driver’s license and other licenses are required to operate equipment associated with the job.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Attention to detail is a must.
- Demonstrate the ability to use tools and equipment required in mechanical trades.
- Demonstrate ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English at high school graduate level.
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
- Overtime may be required. The successful candidate must be able and willing to work overtime, which can be either scheduled or call-in and be contactable by telephone.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- Ability to type a minimum of 20 words per minute.
- Ability to process shipping/receiving paperwork with zero errors over a probationary period
- Clear verbal communication (e.g., phone and radio usage) and legible written skills for inventory records and documentation.
- Experience in coordinating vendor returns and repairables.
Work Environment:
- This role involves working in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures.
- Requires the use of safety equipment such as gloves, safety glasses and safety-toe footwear.
Physical Abilities:
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in hot and cold temperature extremes and in inclement weather.
- Must possess the ability to work on ladders, scaffolding and at heights needed to perform role.
- Climb, balance, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl in tight spaces and to push, pull, grasp and lift parts and equipment.
- Work amid noise and vibration.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment to include foot protection and respiratory gear required in a power plant environment to protect from plant hazards.
- Overall physical strength requires frequent heavy lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Must have sufficient physical endurance for repetitive tasks.
- Ability to operate and clearly communicate on public announcement systems/radios.
- Ability to work with a high level of manual dexterity and average levels of sight and hearing.
- Must be able to work on open grated floors, climb stairs and work in extreme weather (hot and/or cold weather) conditions in an outdoor environment. Other conditions may also be present.
