Sterile Services Team Leader

Circle Decontamination - Bristol

37.5 Hours & Permanent

Salary: Up to £31,492.75 per year (depending on level of experience, training and qualification)

Circle Health Group Decontamination is responsible for the provision of sterile equipment and instrumentation for use in surgical and interventional procedures in hospitals across England and Glasgow. The unit operates 24 hours a day/7 days a week with rotating shifts covering days and nights as required.

We have an opportunity for a Sterile Services Team Leader to join their team of staff in the Decontamination department.

This is a full time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Shift patterns for this role include:

06:00 - 14:00

14:00 - 22:00

22:00 - 06:00

Duties of this role include:

  • Lead, supervise and support Technicians and Trainee Technicians, ensuring that all work is completed to the required standards and in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Act as a point of contact and escalation in the absence of the Supervisor or Decontamination Manager.
  • Perform and oversee all stages of the sterile services process: decontamination, inspection, assembly, packing, sterilisation, and dispatch of medical and surgical instruments.
  • Maintain records of production, sterilisation loads, equipment testing, and maintenance in accordance with ISO and MHRA standards.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching, feedback, and structured training to new and existing team members.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience working in a Sterile Services or Decontamination Unit, with at least 1 year at a supervisory level.
  • An acknowledged qualification in decontamination, such as the Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc) qualification or NVQ Level 3 in Decontamination Science.
  • Detailed knowledge of sterilisation and disinfection principles, including safe operation of autoclaves, washer disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and drying cabinets.
  • Familiarity with track and trace systems, both electronic and manual.
  • Understanding of quality management systems, including ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 standards.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and support staff while maintaining strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a time-sensitive environment.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.
  • Full compliance with health screening, including Hepatitis B immunisation (mandatory for this role).
