Work Shift

Day: 8 hours

  • The incumbent is under the supervision of the Manager and Shift Supervisor of the Sterile Processing Department.

  • The professional responsibilities are divided into five major areas: decontamination, preparation and assembly, sterilization processing, storage and distribution. These responsibilities are successfully accomplished through the use of creative application of knowledge, skills, interpersonal and mentoring competencies, and a high level of professionalism.

  • The incumbent will have proficient knowledge of RME reprocessing as required by this position.

  • The incumbent will be required to develop and maintain current knowledge of SPD procedures, which document the processes, and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position.

  • The incumbent will be able to demonstrate knowledge of universal precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination and their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position.

  • The incumbent will work as team member with other Sterile Processing Technicians of various experience to carry out the daily work utilizing Manufactures Instructions for Use (IFU) in accordance with SPD instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted/standard practices.

  • The incumbent will act as a mentor to developmental level Sterile Processing Technicians and serve as a proctor for sterile processing students as instructed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum one-year experience in instrument processing in an acute care setting.

  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology to understand instrumentation, surgical procedures, and surgical schedule.

  • Must be proficient in the Association of Advanced Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Standards of Practice.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

Must hold and maintain current CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or HSPA (Healthcare Sterile Processing Association) certification.

Current valid Driver License.

Ages of Patients Served

This position does not require contact with patients, but may communicate with patients of all age categories.

Salary Range:

$38.58 - $48.78 USD Hour
