Job Description

Minimum Hiring Wage:

From $17.17 per hourScheduled Hours: 2:30pm - 11:00pm, weekend and holiday rotation

A Brief Overview

This position is responsible for ensuring that all surgical supplies, instruments and equipment are properly decontaminated, inspected, assembled, packaged, sterilized, stored, distributed and tracked in a quality / timely manner throughout the hospital. Works independently with little or no supervision. Qualified to train others in Sterile Processing. Serves as a resource to Sterile Processing customers. Knowledge and compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines.

What you will do

  • Decontamination: Identifies and uses appropriate methods and solutions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse and disinfect instruments and clinical equipment. Operates, tests, and troubleshoots cleaning equipment. Appropriately handles garbage, linen, and biohazard materials. Maintains safety standards in decontamination area.
  • Inspecting and Assembly of Instruments: Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality. Consistently uses count sheets to correctly assemble, protect, wrap, containerize and / or peel package, and label instruments. Selects appropriate quality indicators that are part of the sterilization process, when packaging items.
  • Sterilization Process: Selects appropriate sterilization methods. Knows and follows correct principles of sterilization. Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological tests to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process.
  • Storage: Properly handles and stores sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  • Distribution: Retrieves and distributes supplies and equipment to the customer in a quality/timely manner.
  • Equipment: Knows how to use and maintains and operates the equipment and testing devices specific to SP.
  • Inventory Control: Knows and uses the process involved in ordering, receiving, stocking, rotating, delivering and monitoring usage of surgical supplies. Communicates supply issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Environmental Standards: Maintains a clean orderly work area. Completes assigned housekeeping duties.
  • Resource to Customers: Serves as a resource to customers on all Sterile Processing functions.


Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) Required
  • Successful completion of Sterile Processing Technician National Exam within 24 months of hire Required
  • One (1) year in instrument processing field Preferred
  • One (1) year experience in a materials-related field with knowledge of Supply distribution, especially in a clinical setting Preferred
  • Completion of a surgical tech course of study Preferred
  • Computer Skills Preferred
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ensures competency and comprehension of all regulatory standards.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safety and security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and company.
  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

  • Sterile Processing Distribution Tech Required

Qualifications:

Required: Successful completion of Sterile Processing Technician National Exam within 2 years of hire.
