Pharmacy Technician - Sterile Compounding Technician

Position Highlights:

Nebraska Medicine is looking for a motivated individual to join our infusion center pharmacy team as a sterile compounding technician! Our sterile compounding technicians are a vital part of a patient’s experience in the infusion center. Our technicians compound all IV medications that are administered in our infusion centers. Job responsibilities of a sterile compounding technician include performing sterile compounding according to policy and regulations including USP 797 and USP 800, maintaining competency in the use of all equipment and programs related to sterile compounding, participating in medication management for pharmacy compounding, including medication and supply ordering, receiving, and maintenance and troubleshooting equipment, hardware, and software issues relating to compounding. Sterile compounding technicians also participate in completing and documenting all cleaning and monitoring activities identified for areas related to sterile compounding.

A strong candidate can practice critical and focused thinking and perform calculations as needed to validate activities, and able to work within a team to triage and respond to all compounding needs in a timely manner, following supervisor shift pharmacists' oversight. Technicians are required to maintain ongoing didactic and practical training as related to sterile compounding

Shift:

  • First Shift: Varied 8.5-hour day shifts

  • Some evening coverage as needed

  • One weekend (Saturday & Sunday) every fourth week

Duties: Pharmacy Technician - Sterile Compounding Technician

Perform sterile compounding according to policy and regulations including USP 797 and USP 800. Maintain competency in use of all equipment and programs related to performing sterile compounding. Participate in medication management for pharmacy compounding, including medication and supply ordering, receiving, and maintenance. Troubleshoot equipment, hardware, and software issues relating to compounding. Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 18 years of age required.

• Minimum of three months tenure in Nebraska Medicine inpatient pharmacy depart or demonstrated experience in sterile compounding required.

• High school education or equivalent required.

• Registered as a pharmacy technician with the State of Nebraska Board of Pharmacy required.

• Pharmacy Technician Certification within 12 months of licensed date required.

• Internal Aseptic Technique training completed within two weeks of hire required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Hazardous medication and/or total parenteral nutrition (TPN) compounding experience preferred.
