of position: To provide education in STEM and technology to students in kindergarten through twelfth grade; to provide training and consultation to teachers and special education support staff regarding technology and assistive technology. 

Education and Licensure 

Required:  Bachelor’s degree in related field; work towards licensure in Special

Education, moderate disabilities  

Preferred: MA teaching license in education or related field; licensure in Special

Education, Moderate Disabilities 

Experience 

Required: Background in educational technology 

Preferred: Experience working with children with complex social, emotional, and

behavioral challenges.

Ability to work in a stressful and fast paced environment. Must understand child development and the impact of emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities. Must understand issues of confidentiality. Required physical abilities: Ability to work and stand for extended period of time. Job may require bending, stooping, stretching, and lifting. Job requires the ability to perform therapeutic physical intervention as needed.

 

Essential functions: 

1. Work as a part of a multidisciplinary team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children. 
2. Maintain a classroom atmosphere that is conducive to learning and effectively manage the behavior of students in small and large groups. 
3. Implement treatment protocol and appropriate therapeutic strategies established in children’s treatment plans, IEPs, and individual support plans. 
4. Participate fully in the administrative functions of teaching and childcare, including attending and participating in required meetings, completing assigned report writing tasks in a timely manner, and actively communicating with families and members of the students’ multidisciplinary team. 
5. Apply Walker’s model of childcare, including Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), which requires physical restraint when necessary, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, cooperative group games, and behavioral support.
6. Actively participate in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker.   
7. Plan and implement weekly STEM lessons in all classrooms, at Walker School Needham four days per week and Walker Beacon School (Watertown) one day per week.
8. Plan and implement weekly Technology lessons in all classrooms, at Walker School Needham four days per week and Walker Beacon School (Watertown) one day per week.
9. Work across programs to support students in safely accessing technology and the internet.
10. Support in creating and maintaining inventory system for mobile technology (ie. iPads, Chromebooks etc.) on the residential units.
11. Plan STEM/Technology club/elective as needed on both campuses.
12. Complete Assistive Technology evaluations as needed.  
13. Align units, lessons, and objectives with school and state standards.  
14. Prepare sequential units of study as well as daily lessons and materials necessary for instruction, setting clear and reasonable standards and expectations for students.  
15. Provide consultation to teachers on use of the internet and instructional technology.  
16. Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures.
17. All other duties, as assigned. 

Supervision to be received: Directly responsible to and supervised by the Assistant Principal
