Job Description

Wood is currently recruiting experienced Steel Fixers to join our team in HGCP, Hides, Papua New Guinea on a FIFO rotational schedule (28 days on/off, 12 hrs per day).

Reporting to the Civil Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for installing and securing reinforcing steel for concrete structures while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications.

  • Read and interpret construction drawings and reinforcement schedules
  • Cut, bend, and fix reinforcing steel bars and mesh
  • Install reinforcement in foundations, slabs, columns, and other structures
  • Tie rebar using appropriate techniques to ensure structural integrity
  • Ensure correct placement, spacing, and alignment of reinforcement
  • Work closely with formwork carpenters and concrete crews
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
  • Follow instructions from supervisors and adhere to work plans
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Report defects, hazards, or issues to the Supervisor
  • Relevant trade qualification or experience in steel fixing
  • Experience in construction or project-based environments
  • Ability to read and interpret reinforcement drawings
  • Experience on large-scale or industrial projects (advantageous)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in similar role
