Steel Fabrication Fitter

Location: Richmond, VA

Job Type: Full-Time | Contract to Hire

Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift

Pay: Up to $28.00/hour, based on experience

2nd Shift Differential: +$3.00/hour

Position Overview

We are hiring a Steel Fabrication Fitter to prepare and assemble structural steel components for fabrication. This position focuses on accurate layout, measurements, positioning, fit-up, and alignment while working from shop drawings and fabrication specifications.

Responsibilities

• Review blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications to determine assembly requirements.
• Measure and mark steel components for cutting, positioning, and assembly.
• Perform layout and fit-up of structural steel parts.
• Position, align, and secure components according to specified dimensions.
• Prepare steel pieces for welding and final fabrication.
• Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including a track torch.
• Monitor measurements and component placement throughout the fabrication process.
• Check completed fit-ups for proper dimensions, alignment, and workmanship.
• Identify and correct dimensional or alignment issues as needed.
• Work with supervisors and other shop personnel to keep production on schedule.
• Maintain tools, materials, and work areas in an orderly condition.
• Follow all applicable shop safety procedures and work practices.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in structural steel fitting, layout, or fabrication.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Hands-on experience with steel positioning, fitting, alignment, and assembly.
• Ability to set up and operate a track torch.
• Familiarity with welding processes, fabrication machinery, and common shop tools.
• Strong measuring skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to consistently produce accurate, quality work.
• Comfortable working in a production-oriented fabrication environment.
• Ability to work effectively with a fabrication team.
• Commitment to workplace safety and maintaining an organized work area.
• AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.
