The Steam Turbine Blade Design Liaison Engineer (DLE) position in the Steam Turbine Engineering organization is responsible for providing focused support to our global supply chain partners. We work with an unwavering sense of urgency, quality, and innovation. Our team serves as the bridge between supply chain manufacturing and design engineering groups – we maintain high technical rigor to ensure the quality of the product is not compromised as we support our supply chain and customers.

The selected candidate will drive customer fulfillment excellence, by qualifying suppliers that can meet the engineering specifications called out in our drawings, and he/she will also provide timely resolutions to non-conformance requests, while working with a global technology team of steam turbine component hardware owners to provide resolution on issues that require complex manufacturing & technical support.

This role, in addition to closely collaborating with our internal & external customers, is critical in driving a team culture of technical and manufacturing domain depth, contemporary leadership, on time quality execution and strong customer-focused mindset.

Essential Functions:

In this role, the individual shall provide focused, streamlined, and consistent support onsite at a manufacturing facility. The Design Liaison Engineer will handle Steam Turbine Blade and other Steam-Path parts Qualification, support the implementation of new technologies and manufacturing processes, disposition of Nonconformance requests, Tolerance stack-up and modification issues, support manufacturing quality improvement initiatives, trend defects and recommend resolution for recurring issues.

In addition, the selected candidate is expected to:

  • Qualification of suppliers for manufacturing steam turbine blade parts using new technologies, or complex manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure Steam Turbine blade design specifications are adequate to instruct the qualification and manufacturing of critical components to design intent.
  • Deliver high quality solutions to disposition non conformances during manufacturing and provide corrective actions to resolve the issues.
  • Conceive innovative ideas to solve steam turbine blade manufacturing and design problems.
  • Provide timely responses to supplier deviation requests.
  • Execute standard work and implement templates for common issues encountered for specific components/assemblies. Identify creative ways to improve and create our processes, design methods, and manufacturing methods.
  • Leverage design documentation to support dispositions of hardware deviations, material substitutions and drawing revisions to support improved manufacturability.
  • Evaluate and mitigate component, assembly, and/or system level manufacturing risks.
  • Provide input to design practice owners on manufacturing topics relating to their document.
  • Maintain strong relationships with supply chain teams. Keep abreast of new technologies, products, and emerging fleet services issues.
  • Implement drawing modifications/update to address non-conformances.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including Global Supply Chain, Quality, Steam Turbine Engineering, Material, Product Definition etc.

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college; or relevant experience that would be equal to a bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in manufacturing steam turbine steam path hardware or similar rotating machinery.
  • Demonstrated capability in collaborating in a cross functional global organization.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Legal right to work. We will not sponsor individuals for legal permits or visas.

Desired Experience:

  • Relevant experience designing steam turbine hardware or similar rotating machinery.
  • Understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings & BoMs.
  • Strong organizational & communication skills.
  • Humble, open-minded, self-motivated, and a continuous learner.
  • Ability to rapidly shift day to day priorities based on emerging business needs
