In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead Coordinate and oversee the efficient and effective Operation of the Statutory Planning function. Working in a key leadership role guiding planning outcomes in one of the fastest growing Councils in Victoria.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead cross-functional teams comprising relevant Council officers and external consultants to plan and deliver the projects.
  • Provide leadership, supervision and support to staff, ensuring that work performance is monitored regularly, and that regular feedback on performance is provided.
  • Provision of guidance and/or advice to statutory planning staff, enforcement officers, subdivision officers and administration officers as required.
  • Appraise and counsel staff accordance with contemporary management practice approved procedures and policy.
  • Coordinate the administration of the Planning and Environment Act 1987 and relevant statutory process.
  • Assessing the merits of planning applications, involving the application of discretionary decision making, including the preparation of reports in accordance with the schedule of delegation and relevant acts and legislation.
  • Representing Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and other forums where required.
  • Lead Statutory Planning to provide a consistently high level of service to customers in a prompt and pleasant manner.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in town planning or related field and several (3-5) years’ experience at Coordinator level or in a senior town planning role.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply planning schemes, policy and legislation and regulations.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects and a complex workload.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication skills, negotiation, stakeholder management and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability with the ability to motivate people within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and demonstrated capacity to manage a team of staff
  • Demonstration of experience with process review and implementing change.
  • Current Victorian drivers licence.
