Location: Camberwell, NSW 2330

Located 14km northwest of Singleton, Ashton Underground Mine has been operational for over 20 years. The mine produces semi-soft coking coal for export through the Port of Newcastle, for use in the steel manufacturing industry and thermal coal for power generation. Ashton employs approximately 330 people across the surface and underground operations.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Develop, supervise, monitor and review the Mechanical Engineering Standards and Procedures that form part of Mining Operations at both the Underground and CHPP
  • Supervise the installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of mechanical plant & equipment on site
  • Maintain statutory compliance required for all mining machinery and equipment under your responsibility
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholder departments to ensure achievement of site targets

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (essential)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer in an Underground Coal Mine (essential)
  • Current Practising Certificate for the function of Mechanical Engineering Manager or working towards
  • High level communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong ability to influence and negotiate with key stakeholders, both internal & external
  • Safety conscious with a commitment to continuous improvement
  • High level planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities
