Stationary Engineer

Reporting To: Director, Engineering & Maintenance
Compensation: $65,000 - $75,000 / year
Purpose of Position: As a member of the Engineering & Maintenance Team, the Stationary Engineer is responsible for the upkeep of all new thermal heaters, steam boilers, water treatment systems and other assets within the facility.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Maintains and repairs equipment related to the water treatment system, pumps, pressure vessels, valves, compressors, boilers, HVAC systems, thermal heaters, chillers and make-up air units.
- Accountable for personal performance and promoting optimum team performance in achieving work area process objectives. Fosters and support a team environment.
- Assumes responsibility for the operation of related equipment in the applicable work area and provides technical and operational expertise as required.
- Inspects, monitors, tests, records and analyze process equipment to optimize performance, taking into consideration cost, local and/or facility-wide impacts, equipment capabilities, possible environmental impact, etc., and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures. Conducts tests and adds chemicals as required.
- Make timely operational decisions and addresses/respond to alarm conditions and emergencies to ensure operational sustainability and efficiency within established performance and quality limits.
- Isolates and locks out equipment to support/perform maintenance activities.
- Ensures cleanliness and safety of facilities by maintaining and cleaning work areas and promoting some.
- Trains, directs, assists and supports unionized staff.
- Maintains documentation of all work area activities using a manual and/or computerized system including but not limited to logbook administration, computer records review, accident reports, alarm responses, etc.
- Performs all assignments safely in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Regulations that apply to this work and other related legislation.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Knowledge & Experience):
- Must possess and maintain a current Certificate of Qualification as a Stationary Engineer Class 3 or better, in accordance with 0. Reg. 219/01 as amended.
- Must possess TSSA Certification.
- Experience with Clayton steam boilers and Fulton or Vapor Power Thermal Heaters preferred.
- Can operate any size of the refrigeration portion of the plant.
- Repairs heating and air conditioning systems, maintains equipment such as hoists, roof top HVAC and undertakes minor repairs as required.
- Coordinates with outside contractors on projects as required.
- Familiarity with health and safety practices.
- Repairs electrical circuits & hydraulic systems.
- Ability to identify and interpret symbols for engineering drawings such as process flow, P&ID drawings & equipment layout.
- Must have knowledge of applicable environmental and other applicable regulations that apply (Water & Wastewater Treatment and/or Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- An ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, prepare detailed reports and maintain neat and accurate operating records, as per regulatory requirements.
- Must possess computer skills including the ability to operate various software programs, ability to make necessary calculations and interpret data to ensure processes stay in compliance.
- Knowledge of sampling techniques, analytical procedures with the ability to interpret and make process adjustments.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in a similar industrial maintenance role.
- Post-secondary education or technical certification in a relevant field.
Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Proficient in MP2 preferred or equivalent CMMS system.
- Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:
- Work is generally required to be conducted within manufacturing environment. Plant PPE required where appropriate.
- Standard 40-hour work week. Business activities may require flexibility to work additional hours.
