Job Description

A vacancy exists for the position of Station Asset Manager, Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations.

This is an opportunity to work as part of a leading-edge team in Ireland’s only pumped storage hydro power station located at Turlough Hill, and in our 3 traditional hydro power stations on the River Liffey.

We have been generating electricity on the Liffey since 1944, and at Turlough Hill since 1974. Our stations have a combined generating capacity of 330MW and are strategic to ESB’s objective of NetZero 2040. The Station Asset Manager will play a pivotal role within the team to ensuring the stations commercial and technical performance is maintained.

Turlough Hill and Liffey stations are made up of 4 separate generating locations; 292MW of pumped storage at Turlough Hill and 38MW of hydro generation at Poulaphouca, Golden Falls and Leixlip. This comprises 9 power turbines and all the associated dams, gates and civil structures associated with the river Liffey hydroelectric scheme and Turlough Hill.

The Station Asset Manager shall have a minimum of 7 years’ experience and will be responsible for all asset management activities in Turlough Hill and Liffey Stations.

Key Responsibilities

Duties of the role includes but may not be limited to:

• Management of the Technical Service Department
• Develop Life Time Asset Plan (LTAP) for Station submission to ESB Asset Manager and develop nonrecurring cost business cases and report on implementation.
• Develop appropriate asset management systems and procedures to ensure the generation facilities can be managed in full compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and technical regulations and meet best industry practice for process safety and safety critical maintenance.
• Ensure full compliance with all safety regulations relevant at the locations, leading a sustained culture of engaged, continuous improvement in safety.
• Deliver agreed plant performance targets for the assets, specifically focussing on process safety, commercial availability & reliability through the implementation of PG standards and guidelines
• Deliver plant overhauls and track progress in relation to work scope and quality and sign off on any changes inline with the overhaul change management procedure
• Other duties as allocated by Hydro Manager in agreement with Asset Manager
• Optimise the life cycle business impact of costs, performance and risk exposure on the station plant assets
• Undertake the role of Nominated Environmental co-ordinator for the assets.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential

• 7+ years relevant experience
• A primary engineering degree in any of the engineering disciplines, or equivalent, or equivalent work experience is required.
• Self-motivated and have the ability to contribute to Hydro management team effectiveness to deliver on asset O&M costs and performance.
• Commercial awareness and understanding of the potential revenue earnings capabilities as well as cost drivers for Hydro assets.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead, empower and motivate staff to deliver best international practice for asset management.
• Full B driving license.

Desirable

• Have experience and competence in Operations / Maintenance of Power Plant and in Power Plant technologies, systems and procedures, or similar industry.
• Knowledge of Safe Systems of work, Permitting and Isolating processes. 

Location

This position is based in Turlough Hill & Liffey Stations.

Reporting To

The successful candidate will report to the Turlough Hill and Liffey Stations Plant Manager. In addition there will be a functional reporting relationship to the Asset Manager.

Salary

€71,976 - €84,677 per annum
