Leads activities on Operating Company (OPCo) legislative, regulatory and major policy issues, provides effective representation of the company's positions on environmental issues, and builds a positive awareness of the company's environmental performance through effective communications. Develops, organizes and implements corporate policy and strategy in the state Capitol. Demonstrates the ability to educate the state, legislative and government on the goals and objectives of the corporation.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Lead legislative environmental and other policy initiatives.

  • Provide effective representation of the company's position on legislative, regulatory, environmental and major policy issues.

  • Establish and maintain key stakeholder legislative, government, regulatory and industry and public advocacy group relationships at every level.

  • Influence the development of Operating Company environmental regulations working in partnership with environmental services.

  • Support corporate grassroots and political action committee activities.

  • Represent Operating Company within industry trade associations and other industry organizations.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Education requirements are listed below: Bachelor's Degree in engineering, public policy, political science or related discipline.

Work Experience requirement listed below: Five (5) years' of experience in public policy work with demonstrated leadership skills and thorough understanding of state regulatory and legislative processes.

Must reside in or near Oklahoma City, OK.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Travel requirements are expected 10-25% of the time.

Although, physical demand level is Sedentary at times, the position does require significant amount of walking at the Capital.

  • Experience with respective state legislative or regulatory processes is preferred when working in the operating company.

  • Ability to build relationships, interface, collaborate and achieve objectives through collaboration with multiple groups of stakeholder's government officials, business leaders, customers, and AEP employees at all levels.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively negotiate and achieve goals that support customers and our business.

  • Willingness to work evenings or weekends to attend key business functions.

  • Travels 10% of the time within Operating Company territory.

  • Although this position is listed as hybrid, the position will be onsite 5 months out of the year during the legislative session.

Compensation Range:

$136,539.00 - $177,503.00
