Description

Pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 268B, Section 2(e), the Office of Governor Maura T. Healey invites interested candidates to apply to serve as a Commissioner on the State Ethics Commission.

The State Ethics Commission is a non-partisan, independent state agency responsible for interpreting, advising, civilly enforcing, and providing training on the state conflict of interest law, General Laws Chapter 268A and the state financial disclosure law, General Laws Chapter 268B. The Commission consists of five members who are appointed to serve staggered, five-year terms. Three Commissioners, including the Chairman, are selected by the Governor, one by the Secretary of State, and one by the Attorney General. No more than two of the gubernatorial appointments, and no more than three members of the Commission as a whole, may be from the same political party. The Commissioners serve part-time and employ a full-time staff. Commissioners are subject to certain limits on political activity as set out in General Laws Chapter 268B, Section 2(f). The position is unpaid but Commissioners are entitled to a small statutory per diem pursuant to General Laws Chapter 268A.Commissioners generally meet monthly with the full-time Commission staff to discuss and decide various matters presented to them by the staff. The meetings are held in the Commission’s office in Boston Commissioners may meet on certain subcommittees during the course of their service.
