Position Summary

*This is a twelve-month renewable position contingent upon funding.

**This position is in partnership with the DoD and Cannon Airforce Base.

The position is housed on CAFB. The salary follows the DoD salary scale.

Full-time positions at Clovis Community College are not remote positions and require a physical presence on campus to fulfill duties and college-related responsibilities.

Under limited direction of the STARBASE Director, the DoD STARBASE Teacher will work collaboratively with schools in the region to deliver engaging, hands-on STEM curriculum to 5th grade students from area schools, inspiring a lifelong love for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In addition, the STARBASE teacher will work with CAFB staff to provide integration between STEM curriculum and related military operations for awareness military career opportunities as it relates to STEM.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver established STARBASE STEM curriculum to 5th grade students using hands-on, inquiry-based teaching methods.
• Adapt instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners and maintain high levels of student engagement.
• Coordinate with local school districts and educators to schedule classes and maintain strong collaborative relationships.
• Prepare materials, set up lab/classroom space, and maintain equipment as needed.
• Participate in training, curriculum planning, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Support the overall mission and values of the STARBASE program and the Department of Defense.
• Deliver high-energy, hands-on STEM instruction to 5th grade students using the STARBASE curriculum.
• Engage students through inquiry-based learning and real-world STEM applications.
• Coordinate with regional schools to schedule student participation and build strong partnerships.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring classroom environment that fosters curiosity and exploration.
• Prepare classroom materials, set up experiments, and maintain lab and technology equipment.
• Adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learning styles and student needs.
• Collaborate closely with fellow educators and military personnel to ensure cohesive program delivery.
• Participate in professional development, curriculum updates, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Communicate effectively with school staff, administrators, and STARBASE leadership.
• Uphold DoD standards, program protocols, and a commitment to educational excellence.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and pushing and pulling of up to 20 lbs.

SCHEDULE DETAILS:

Must be available to work 40 hrs. per week with normal work hours from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. The position is located on Cannon Air Force Base.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in one of the following:
• STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) related field
• Education
• Another field with relevant teaching experience and ability to demonstrate the integration of STEM concepts, technology, or interdisciplinary learning into instruction.
• Ability to pass security and background checks required by DoDI 1402.05.
• Ability to travel within the State on a regular basis.
• Valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) related field, or Master’s degree in Education with endorsements in a STEM field.
• 3 years of experience teaching in multiple STEM-related fields.
