Job Description

Recruits, researches, interviews, screens, and refers job candidates for job openings by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Confers with management and supervisors to identify personnel needs, job specifications, job duties, qualifications, and skills.
  • Writes job descriptions or reviews and edits job descriptions written by others.
  • Develops recruitment programs, budgets, and collateral, such as brochures about the organization to attract applicants and to fill specific job openings.
  • Develops and maintains network of contacts to help identify and source qualified candidates.
  • Initiates contact with potentially qualified candidates for specific job openings.
  • Reviews applications and interviews applicants to obtain work history, education, training, job skills, and salary requirements, and to provide information about the organization and position.
  • Screens and refers candidates for additional interviews with others in organization.
  • Writes and places job advertising in various media, with the assistance of management.
  • Works with external recruiters and employment agencies to identify and recruit candidates.
  • Utilizes internet online recruiting sources and social media to identify and recruit candidates.
  • Provides information on company facilities and job opportunities to potential applicants.
  • Coordinates communications with applicants.
  • Coordinates background checks on applicants with the compliance department to be in accordance with FMCSA requirements.
  • Files and maintains applications for future references.
  • Assists the safety director with creating and maintaining training materials and documents.
  • Works with the Safety Director in the training of new and current independent contractors regarding FMCSA regulations and safe practices in the loading, unloading, and transportation of commercial freight.

Qualifications:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • High School degree or G.E.D. - or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in Microsoft Office PowerPoint, Word, and Excel software. Must be able to adapt to new software when required.
  • Ethics - Treats people with respect; Keeps commitments; Works with integrity and ethically; Upholds organizational values.
  • Communication - Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions. Writes clearly and informatively; Edits work for spelling and grammar; Varies writing style to meet needs; Presents numerical data effectively; Able to read and interpret written information.
  • Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; Manages competing demands; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Including problem solving in a timely manner, individually as well as in groups.
  • Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Uses equipment and materials properly. Reports safety and security issues to upper management.
  • Physical Demands - While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Travel - Must be available for occasional travel to trade shows, annual contractor training, and other recruiting functions
