Student Standardized Patient (SPs) are hired on an as needed basis for the programs oulined below. We are unable to guaranteed hours but all SPs are paid $25/hr for both training and programs.
However, if you demonstrate an affinity for the work, and your schedule allows, you might be added to the general SP pool and recruited for programs in English (M-F between 8-5 pm) as needed.
Our standardized patient (SP) program hires people from the univeristiy and community to portray a variety of patient roles with specific medical symptoms as well as to act as body models for physical exam and ultrasound sessions. Each SP performance is standardized to portray a “real” patient case accurately and reliably over time and across different SPs. No acting experience is required but SPs may be specifically trained to memorize a script and assume the “patient’s” history, emotional characteristics, physical symptoms, and other body language.
All SPs must be 18+ years old
We are in need of native Spanish Speakers for our Medical Spanish Electives. These programs are taking place in the Samson Pavilion - Health Education Campus.
The first opportunity will be a PA Medical Spanish elective (Physician Assistant) on Thursday Mornings between 10 am and 12:30 pm from June to the 2nd week of July (interview only with some light physical exam, no hospital gowns). Depending on the case demographic SPs may only work one or two of the dates.
During the fall semester the School of Medicine will run an Intermediate Medical Spanish Elective (Mid-Term and Final exams using SPs it is often held on weekday afternoons). Historically these are interviews only with no physical exam.
In addition, we hold an Advanced Medical Spanish Elective (held early evening on weekdays) with bi monthly medical Spanish simulations which can be interview only, a gowned physical exam (you have on sport shorts/bra under a cloth hospital gown) or a focused interview and physical exam. Each date will have a short SP Case to learn (the patient's name, history of current illness, past medical history and any physical exam findings - for example it hurts when they press on your abdomen. ) All cases are trained via zoom by arrangement the week before the program.
If, after checking your Summer/Fall schedule, you find you have availbitly for the above programs, feel free to apply! If you have any questions feel free to email me at hmg29@case.edu.
