Level II Technician will provide services including but not limited to theatrical rigging, lighting, sound reinforcement, computer media/projection, scenic installation as well as customer relations. Level II Technician will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of lighting equipment and inventory as well as knowledge and operations of theater lighting and sound consoles. Must be able to work with theater management team to advance bookings and facilitate in maintaining the safe, tolerant, and inclusive performance environment of The Salvation Army Joan B. Kroc Theater.

Essential Functions for Level II

  • Working with the Technical Production Managers in the operation and programing of the lighting and sound
  • console as related to production and performances.
  • Ability to instruct others in basic console operations.
  • Retain working knowledge of theater technical inventory.
  • Must work well independently.
  • Must have basic design capabilities in lighting design and sound installation.
  • Must be able to maintain and assess theater lighting equipment.
  • Must be able to maintain and operate theater counterweighted fly system.
  • Must be able to read lighting plots, mic plots and patch equipment accordingly.
  • Ability to program, operate, & maintain sound and lighting equipment during all technical and dress rehearsals, as well as productions.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to lift 40lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Prior technical theatre experience required.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Meet all health and safety
  • regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The
  • Salvation Army.
  • Must be in good physical and
  • mental health, capable of meeting
  • the demands of arts orientated instruction.
  • Must successfully complete the Protecting the Mission Abuse
  • Prevention training as established by The Salvation Army.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Excellent time management.
  • Good computer operation & navigation.
  • Experience with hand tools.
  • Basic rigging experience.
  • Back stage etiquette.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism.
  • Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army.
  • Must be able to works with parents, children, & staff as a leader & mentor in the specifics of theater operations.
  • Ability to interact with children of all ages in a joyful, sensitive, & respectful manor.
  • Display positive behavior modeling & establish positive & consistent professional boundaries.
  • Handle security or crisis matters in a calm & professional manner.
  • Problem solving with a positive and professional attitude, & consulting with Manager when situationally necessary.
