The Opportunity

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.

Join Lockheed Martin Australia as a Senior / Staff Systems Engineer and apply your expertise across a diverse portfolio of complex Defence and national security programs. This role is ideal for an experienced Systems Engineer who enjoys solving challenging technical problems, influencing program outcomes, and providing leadership across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Working across multiple projects and capability domains, you will contribute to the delivery of advanced Defence systems while supporting engineering excellence initiatives, capability development activities and continuous improvement across the broader Systems Engineering function. This is an opportunity to work alongside some of Australia's leading Defence engineers, expand your technical influence, and help shape the future of complex Defence capability.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior / Staff Systems Engineer's primary responsibilities include:

  • Lead and support systems engineering activities across complex Defence programs, from requirements definition through to integration, verification and delivery
  • Provide specialist expertise in areas such as requirements management, systems architecture, specialty engineering, or verification & validation
  • Contribute to technical reviews, bids, governance activities and engineering assurance processes across the business
  • Collaborate with project teams, functional leaders and stakeholders to solve complex technical and program challenges
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of Systems Engineering processes, tools, training and capability initiatives
  • Mentor and guide engineers while promoting engineering best practice across the organisation

What you’ll bring

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • 10+ years' experience in Systems Engineering, including delivery of complex Defence, aerospace, maritime or other high-technology programs
  • Deep expertise in one or more systems engineering disciplines such as requirements management, systems architecture, specialty engineering, or verification & validation
  • Proven experience delivering systems or subsystems engineering outcomes across the engineering lifecycle
  • Strong stakeholder management, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and program decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes in complex environments
  • Experience with MBSE methodologies, Agile development practices, Defence capability domains, or test automation approaches will be highly regarded
  • NV1 security clearance and ability to handle Export Controlled information
  • Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice
