Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. The Role

As part of a multidisciplinary Mental Health Service delivering high quality mental health care and in accordance with Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Staff Specialist - Consultant Psychiatrist:

• Provides a comprehensive general adult Consultation-Liaison (CL) psychiatric service in the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) and associated facilities, including the Emergency Department (ED).
• Assessing admitted medical/surgical patients in the Emergency Dept. and in all the other medical speciality units/beds across RHH

• Acts as a consultant to mental health professionals, and health service providers including RHH medical staff, general practitioners and other agencies, with regard to the assessment and management of individuals with mental health disorders.

• Undertakes supervisory responsibilities with psychiatric registrars and other medical staff as required and appropriate.
• Working with the CL Psych team of doctors (staff specialists and registrars) and nurses (CNCs)
• Participation in On-Call

You will need

FRANZCP; College Supervisor Accreditation; Previous experience of working in similar settings i.e. CL Psychiatry or ED Psychiatry

Details of appointment

Fixed term full time, day worker position (with on-call), working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from 3 August 2026 until date 2 February 2027.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging (delete as applicable)

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

• Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

• Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
• Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or (Delete previous for part time SMP) motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum, pro rata
• Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid
• Travel and relocation assistance support is available

Eligibility

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

• Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
  *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

• Staff employed against this Statement of Duties as a Visiting Medical Practitioner will be employed in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Agreement and remunerated accordingly
